Ok, this is the first encode I have done using cce as opposed to tmpg on a dvd. I have used it to encode avi though, and haven't seen a really significent increase in time. At least, not to this extent.

So far, it has been about 12 hours and my progress bar is MAYBE 10 percent across. The status box states a file size of 520581KB (1.Mbps) and Speed: 0.060. So far, there are 94.36 hours left in the encode!

I am using a athlon xp 1700 mildly overclocked to 1800+ speeds. I have fast hard drives in a raid config, abit kr7a-133R MB, 512megs of crucial ddr (standard pc2100) etc...

I do have some background services running, nothing special. Antivirus, daemon tools, messenger and that's about it.

I realize the faq's recomend shutting down all background services, and not overclocking, but all this aside, is there anything I can look for, maybe in the way dvd2svcd is configured? Like I said, I get pretty decent performance on .avi files, roughly 3 hours or so for a standard movie. (1.5-2 hours, don't remember exactly.)

Here is a copy of my log file, so far.

A couple of things you should do and then repost, because we can't really help based on your current setup.

1. Upgrade DVD2DVCD. You are many versions behind.
2. Shut off the Anti Virus program.

and Speed: 0.060

From reading the above, you are doing a plain jane ntsc dvd encode with no filters. Speed should be 1.4 to 1.7 on your machine so you should stop it and find out what is going on. I suspect it is not even encoding and you are wasting your time.

Kill Dvd2svcd, kill cce, reopen Dvd2svcd, go to misc tab and recover. Goto conversion menu>go button>preview and see if you see a frame or an error message. Let us know.

Also, upgrade so we can all be on the same page. Avisynth 2.51 is faster and it looks like you do not use a complicated setup so I would suggest it.

Ok, I have upgraded to latest version, made sure to kill antivirus. I did a preview before I started encoding, got a nice picture, no error. I had to abandon the old project and start new, if I tried to recover the project from an earlier version, it played hell with dvd2svcd.

So basicly, what happens is when it gets to the encode video part and cce starts doing it's thing, it starts out at about zero, quickly works its way up to about 1.80, then goes down hill all the way to like .01 and the computer slows WAY down, almost unusable. So... this is a resource problem or something?

Now it is 6 mins in, and the speed continues to drop off, it is down to .9 from 1.8 and steadily dropping. Any ideas what could cause that?

VegasF6, I don't know what to tell you. I don't think I remember ever seeing a problem like this one. I have a few more suggestions, but they may just waste your time:

1> If you still have your directory intact, it will speed up testing for you if you will bypass DVD2SVCD and open cce manually. Load the ecl file and press encode. If the same problem persists kill cce, then open cce manually again and drag the avisynth-script.avs in/on to it. Double click on the entry or right click to edit and un-check the audio and vaf creation. Set cbr mode at say 2584 and then press encode and see if the same problem show up.

2> Have you tried another source DVD? Try to get a copy of a known good encoding dvd. Matrix is fine or something like that.

3> Report back.

Ddog, thanks for the reply. I am having other issues now. I removed and reisntalled cce (v2.66) and tried encoding manually with cce, and it was fine, in fact super fast with the options I used. However, now I am having issues with .ecl. I downloaded the file EclCCE file floaing around here, but that apparently wasn't the fix I was after. So, essentially I get a message in d2s telling me unable to create .ecl, and if I skip that, at some point (I beleive during muxing) there is no .mp2 to be found. I am doing my best to work through this now, however, I am learning as I go.

P.S. yes, it is with a differn't dvd, although I don't know if it is a known good one. It is Jet Li in Fist of Legend, and in the log it mentions a "hybrid DVD" slowing things down...

DDogg
13th April 2003, 04:21
Put EclCCE in the same dir as cce 2.66.07 and double click on EclCCE so that it causes cce to run. Now, in dvd2svcd set the path for cce in the encoder tab to that copy of EclCCE (the one you just ran) instead of cce itself.

I think you already know this but just to be sure.

Oh, that hybrid is not a good test dvd and it will be very slow, but of course not as slow as you mentioned above.

Yah, you are sure right about this inverse telecline dvd, it is taking forever! But, my speed is up to about .9 which I am thinking might be about right for this particular dvd. So, a combination of the newest d2s, removing and re-installing cce (in fact, upgraded it too) AND eclcce and some experimenting SEEM to have taken care of the problem. One thing, I have gotten a couple crashes, which I didn't expect. I may try going back to the old version of avisynth.

If this encode ever finishes, tomorrow I will try a differn't dvd. Matrix you say? Shows how long I have been out of the game, I was thinking that was an especially hard one. I seem to remember people having trouble with it in the past, something about multiple angles I thought.

Wish me luck,

Sounds like you got it working. If you are having machine crashes see this thread:

VegasF6

Yes, that probably is my problem. The crashes happened during the besweet process. I haven't reformatted this machine in over a year, and it is getting a lot of junk on it. It was especially hot in this room when it happened, although I didn't check my system temps, I am sure they were at least a few degrees hotter than normal. I am running pretty aggressive memory settings, AND I have a heck of a lot of components running on an Antec True 330 PS.

But, since the crashes are rare, and I was able to recover from them, I think I would rather live with them than troubleshoot it! LOL. Unless they were to take place at a specific time over and over, and I was able to recreate them over and over, (then I would be suspicious of some bug), I will just consider them quirks with my machine and something I can live with.

Thanks again for all your help, and I think we can consider these problems solved.

One question I sort of have, it would seem like a good idea to change the download package of d2s to include eclCCE in the future?
