I would get the Sony and buy one 5/10 packs of both DVD-R & DVD+R discs until you find out which format has better compatability with the players these will be played on. If you buy a 100 of one format and find out the DVD player only supports the other format you are left holding the bag on 99 blank DVD's.

Sony is coming out with the DRU510A. Do a search on Pricegrabber. I haven't seen any reviews but I think I remember reading that it was supposed to add 4x to RW discs.
The Optorite DD0203 is a 4x +/- burner that also includes HD-Burn to double the density of CD-R's. I haven't seen reviews for this either, also it's not in stock (yet?) at the place that lists it for $277.link (http://store.yahoo.com/mcgailpc/opdddvredrre.html)
