DVD decrypter and nero help

Ok - I am trying to find a guide or some advice on backing up several of my dvd's using DVD decryptor and Nero (Most are dual layer, in particular, I am attempting to back up big lebowski)-
For one, I cannot figure out which files I need to rip using decrypter so that when I ultimately burn using Create DVD Video in Nero, it will play. The standard files that decrypter selects does not work. I have read hundreds of messages and looked at most all of the guides. I am basically lost on how to remove all extras and/or subtitles, etc. and select the appropriate files in decypter file mode, so that it will fit on one DVD-r using Nero to burn. Any advice?

Maybe in the end, it is not easy as it seems, and thus, I may have jumped too soon on purchase of dvd burner (ie, early adopter syndrome)

doom9 has a number of beginner guides to ripping and you can try over at the dvddecrypter site. These will get you going but be patient. A program called DVD2ONE will also help you compress a movie that spans more than one layer and makes it fit onto one disc.

The standard selections made by DVD Decrypter will not work if you just burn them straight to DVD - most of the time this will be oversized too.

You need to either use a 1-click backup program like DVD2One or DVDShrink (free) or sit down and learn how to author - the guides here on Doom9 are all you need.

The basic procedure is copy all files from the DVD - downsample the main movie and reinsert it into the original DVD structure.

Whichever method you choose, when you get round to burning with Nero make sure you choose a "DVDROM(UDF)" disc instead of DVD-Video as that never works. Also make sure you select "Physical Partition" and "UDF 1.02" under the UDF tab.

I'm using the combination of DVD Decryptor to rip the files (mostly only the ones which are selected by the program automatically in File Mode) of the DVD to my HD. I then use DVD Shrink in order to cut off some of the audio and perhaps crop the movie a bit.
I then use Nero (latest version) to make a DVD Video, which always works fine for me :-)
