How Do I Merge 2 MPEG Videos...

Hello.

Is there a way to MERGE 2 MULTIPLEXED (video AND AUDIO together) MPEG 2 videos AND add a menu to each clip while I'm at it?

I have several small MPEG-2 movies that I have taken from my VHS collection and digitized.

I own and have used the following programs... Adobe Premiere 65, Pinnacle Edition ProDV500, and several others like TMPGe and the like.

I DO NOT want to make them AVI, or convert them in any way. I DO NOT want to split the audio and video just to have to work with the file! As you well know, it takes FOREVER when you start splitting, editing, and rejoining large files. I have a Pentium 2.8GHz machine, and it takes a long time.

If someone knows of a good software program that can do this without all of the hassel, and waiting, PLEASE let me know...

TMPGEnc's MPEG Tools commands can concatenate 2 MPEGs together. Doom9 has a guide (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/tmpg_procedures.htm). But when you mention "menus" that usually means DVD or SVCD authoring, and you'll need to clarify your question.

Ok, Sorry about that.

I will eventually use the created MPEG file to burn a DVD home video. I have several clips from family gatherings, and I would like to put them all into 1 movie. But, I would like to have some sort of index in there that I can use to JUMP to a certain clip, and thus the menu question.

If I just join everything, then, I will have no way of knowing where each clip exists on the disc.

Does this clairify my question?

i think you'll be probably interested in the following guides (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdauthoring.htm). they explain how you can creat a menu for your dvd. anyway i think there's no need to merge them to one big mpeg. i would just do a simple menu as a frontend so you can jump to any of the clips. somewhat like scene (or extras) selection on a commercial DVD.

Well, I'm stuck. I have tried BOTH Scenarist NT, and DVD Maestro. I cannot use my MPEG2 movies. It says rejected, invalid. These movies were created using NEO DVD PRO and captured from an analog video source with my Aver Capture hardware. These are FULL movies, they contain BOTH Video & Audio multiplexed into one file. NTSC, 29.97, 4:3, 720/480, You know, the standard. How do I get these files into one of the above programs? I have read the guides.

I just want to make a menu, and then put several clips on the same time line and have the menu choices jump to any clip I set it to.

Anyone else want to take a shot? Have 3 MPEG-2 multiplexed files. Want to make 1 DVD with a menu that can play any one of the 3 movies.

Seems like your problem is that your MPEG-2 files aren't proper program streams. I'd try PVAstrumento or ds.jar to correct the structure. And I guess you have to split your MPEG-2 files into elementary streams (video and audio separately) in order to author it (not sure what your programs support, though).

Authoring can be a rather time-consuming process, especially if you use the Mercedes of authoring programs. You may want to try some simpler (and cheaper) software like Ulead DVD MovieFactory.
