heya!
i been wondering since i do dvd backupping over a huffyuv file,
where i use the "area based deinterlacer".
There is no other filter being used by me, but now i been wondering
what that "null transform" filter is good @ all and if i should
also add it (is that even possible)

btw.: is it even neccessary to deinterlace the video if i encode
it afterwards with cce? i do PAL dvds and wonder if that may give
me quality loss?

The null transform filter does nothing. You just need it for cropping if you have no other filters.

I don't know about svcd encoding, but i think you don't have to deinterlace.

DVD and SVCD are basically the same thing right? The allowed resolutions may be different but otherwise...? I think if you notice interlacing artifacts that annoy you, you should deinterlace, otherwise don't, shouldn't be too hard of a test - mpeg2 does allow interlaced encoding so if you want to keep it interlaced it is possible without quality loss due to encoding interlaced material as progressive (while the deinterlace does have some quality loss).
