what content do you keep when you backup your DVD?

Usually everything. I only kick some audio streams ( everything that is not ENGLISH and not GERMAN has to go on my DVDs ) otherwise I tend to keep everything else.

Same here. I put everything in the DVD except the audio and subtitles i don't want.

me too in a way cos I just want a 'kick it' tool, so you can get rid of naff logo's/warnings/extras etc but it still maintains structure but the prog has a nice GUI interface and does the job properly

until then I'm stuck using the Ifoedit/Ifoupdate method :(

only the movie; NO EXTRAS what so ever. no menus either. just the movie for good quality. split the movie to 2 DVDs (using DVDToolbox if the movie is over 6.5 GB).

I think a lot of people don't let go of the extras because they have a collectors mentality. 90% of the time I think extras are worthless. a lot is just boring deleted scenes(ever wonder why there deleted?) or hearing actors and directors say how great it was working on the film. I have been saving trailers separately and would like to make a compilation disc of them. I wish I had more time to read up on all this stuff but im quite busy and work overtime. Which is another reason I prefer movie only because its so much faster. I don't want to hassle myself over extras because HD-DVD is just around the corner and once that is mainstream everything will be released again with more extras and everything else. I've made about 3 backups so far and about 75 more to go. I have been trying to decide this for myself on what will be best before I get started. To me it looks movie only most the time and only keep a extra if its important. I don't know much about dvd backup yet but im learning.

I keep all extras and menus, all subtitles, but I dump any non-english languages. I also dump the 2 channel english when there is 6 channel of the same content available.

I do have a collectors mentality and sometimes I even wince when I get rid of the languages. What if I learn German some day?

movie only and keep English 5.1 sound lose the rest of the sounds (other languages or stereo English). I keep all subtitles which is a benefit over SVCDs cuz I had to do perm subs for Japanese movies since my standalone wouldn't play SVCD subs. I'm a quality lecher.

to maximize quality, i want to do movie only plus i want to delete credits. e.g. just notices that the opening titles and end credits of Superman together account for 600MB!!!

all i now need is dvd2one or its near-clones provide a way to deselect chapters/cells. i dont need anymore upgrades or fancy features. I luv the simplicity of the UI of dvd2one.

unless i see a program that provides the ability to crop the movie (dvd shrink does this) and maximize the dvd-r disc space (dvd shrink doesnt do this) and considering i cant afford CCE or time, i will stay with dvd2one 1.1.1 for ever.

I usually try to kepp max quality but keeping the mian DVD structure. In this way I tend to keep menus at no compression, even warnings and logos 'cause they do not take toomuch space. I usually keep only spanish and english soundtracks, and dump the 2 channel ones in favour of the 5.1 Unfortunately I can't keep DTS ones as they take so much space in the final project. Concerning the movie, I try to keep it with no compression if it fits in the DVD-R, even if I have to dump out extras. And if it does not fit, then I reencode with CCE removing extras to have max space for the reencoded movie... After all, I also tend to think that extras are a secundary part of the DVD, and that it is the main movie what really matters.

we all want to do full 1:1 copies, if this was a perfect world we'd be able to with maximized quality :D

my recent compromise is this..

full menu
maximized main movie

that's it.. i delete all unwanted audio and pretty much any xtra i do not want..

i find this compromise the best.. you get a near-perfect dvd quality movie because of ic's awesome encodes and you get the menu..

the xtras are gone, but it's up to you whether or not the xtras are worth keeping..

ie: the latest movie i did was HEAT
i only kept 1 xtra trailer.. the deniro pacino head2head trailer

the main movie plays awesome, i get the menu too..

that's my latest compromise :sly:

Spiderman doesn't even require any compression if you do main movie only and take out the extra audio...so doing what you say dvdshrink will do it for you. Probably in about 15 mins for the whole process.

There are many ways to make movies fit. I've found on some movies that if I get rid of the title, the credits and the stupid parts I can even make it fit on a single piece of toast.

if you did that to most recent movies you could fit 'em on a floppy :D
