Any form of video encoding uses a lot of memory. Windows also caches the data you just read from disk so that may also be a source for memory consumption. How much memory do you have available?
When i encode a movie with TMPEGnc, it doesn't even lag as much as DVD2AVI. I have 512MB.
Hi!
The slowing factor is the intensive harddrive access DVD2AVI makes. The M$-IExploder accesses the harddrive much while surfing to fill his cache. Therefore the slowdown. This is the same if you're transcoding .wav to .mp2 with toolame or resampling with ssrc. All these tools, including DVD2AVI, make vast harddrive access cause they are reading big data chunks from .wav files. With DVD2AVI it is harder, coz it read big data chunks from .vobs while writing big data chunks to the demuxed .wav file. Hope this helps.
