I was wondering, now a free DVD9 to DVD5 item of software is out, does this spell the end to all the others ? Or will they survive ? Anyone have any future predictions ? I think this is probably a very big deal as far as the competitors go. In some ways it could be good for them as well as us, as it means they will do all they can to add new features which will benefit us users and bring them more customers that the free version doesn't have.

Just wondered what other people think ?

I have done 2 backups today transconding direct from DVD with DVD Shrink, not needing any decrypter, or paying any money. Things are getting so easy :) And to think only 6 months ago I had to use 5 items of software and about 10 hours, hehe.

It will certainly provide some good competition. But I don't think the encoding quality is good enough yet to compete with the others. Depends on how many people want a free one step solution, and how many don't mind spending a couple bucks to squeeze out a little more quality. Since it always undersizes or oversizes right now, I'll probably just use it to strip streams before feeding the movie to one of the other programs for reencoding/transcoding.
