realvideo filter in the plan?

I don't know if there is an SDK or something similar available. Real has made some of their stuff available as Open Source, but I don't know if it is possible to extract single frames from it.

Maybe Karl knows something.

but I am an impatient man. I have a LARGE cache of rmvb files I'd like to convert before burning onto cds. just want to know if anybody is going to have a solution in the near future. not that I'm demanding, just want to know if it's something that will be possible soon. :)

I'm curious why anyone would want to? I mean, the quality is never going to improve, and converting them into MPEG or AVI would just make'em bigger. I've got a bunch of TV shows on CD which I downloaded from newsgroups, and while higher quality would be nice it's also handy having (for example) the entire first seasons of "So Little Time" and "The Osbournes" on a mere two CDs. For higher quality there's always the DVD aisle at Wal-mart - but then, do I really care?

Would those anime rips really be improved if they were "remastered?"

I realize it can be frustrating, but think about it: anything developed like this would afford (indirectly) a benefit to Real. Do you really want to help that horrid media gain acceptance? Better still, do you really want to spend a few hours to a few days downloading a one CD rip of a program only to find out it was "reripped" from a 70MB Real stream?

I dunno about you, but I'm glad Real is a "dead end" format.

When I look at the licence terms I have to agree to, to access any libraries there is:

Not that I would really favor this, but it seems to me those "license terms" aren't worth the bits they occupy if someone were to (say) create such a transcoding library and release it to the newsgroups via (for example) a hipcrime agent loaded onto some random coffeehouse machine...

Still, I'd rather not face a future where one might spend several hours downloading a 70MB Real stream some joker has transcoded into a 700MB AVI just because "Real player sucks." There are enough bad rips already without adding more ways to create them.

also i'm seeing mpeg1 on 1,6mbit/s on NG's...my god
are there fools or is that just old material?

few days ago i got "bottom" and "the new statesman"(both bbc with
rik mayall)
pretty poor 320x240 vhs rip (pretty unwatchable because
of heavy blur),and after an upsizing,filtering,downsize,and sharpening this looks pretty acceptable
(heh,thanks poptones, found some tips on ars...)
although this doesn't quite work if the resolutionis too low...
(btw. pitty what they did on ars...you were outrageous before too..
heh..in a good sense...)

on the end;rm9 SHOULD be used for web purposes (damn,i'm still loving this 56k of mine) as it's good enough (hell,it's watchable on tv-out
realone has some sharpening filter too...) but for other things
you gotta appreciate ffdshow (my god when i turn that MV display what a feast tfor my eyes..heh)
rm9 cannot produce such sharp image as proper mepg4 (of some kind) .avi..........

can 2.0.5 open mp3?
i'm having trouble with opening avi (mentioned 320x240 divx)
with mp3...
"cannot resample" or such error message....
when i remove the sound it opens ok...

also;why not make one change list for all 2.0.x versions?
i wouldn't mind "dloading" 5kb of .txt file...heh
this way i couldn't find it easily on avs web...
(ie. if 2.0.8 has mp3 loader etc.)

so I can watch it on a standalone player without having to tv out from a 'puter. I understand the crap in crap out concept. I am not expecting some miracle here. In case that rm format doesn't get ported over to the next great OS from MS, I still have my 50 dollar dvd machine to rely on. :) (just so that there's no confusion, that last line was a joke, please don't take it too literally.)

@sh0dan, I guess the buttom line is that you are not allowed to do it. I still can't understand why, but I guess they are entitled to do whatever they deem necessary. conclusion, no rm/rmvb filter for the future? :(

If the goal is just to be able to watch it without a computer, record the dumb things on VHS and you're good to go. That's what I did (this also works for QT ;) )

If you have even a halfway decent machine it ain't hard to transcode real via a capture card. Just connect the video out to the video in, open real player and virtualdub, and go at it. I've even used this method to make video from javascript animations.

Speaking of which... an avisynth filter that could "play" web pages sure would rock.

@^^-+I4004+-^^: Yes - 2.05 is capable of opening these files. There is a complete changelist in the avisynth installation package. Open the documentation and hit "changes" on the left.
