DVD-Rs won't play on my DVD Player

I just bought a Panasonic DVD-S35 Player. It says that will play dvd-rs, hell it will even play DVD-Rams. The problem is that it won't play my DVD-R movies. They are all on quality Verbatim DVD-Rs. Do you think its the player, or is there something I need to do to make these disks play on a player? They will play on my computer fine with Power DVD.
