I've noticed a few of my Ritek's have this bizarre crescent moon shaped "scar" on the label side. Its near the center. It doesn't appear to affect playback, they play just fine, but I don't know what the heck is causing this. So far I've only noticed it AFTER burning the dvd-r.
It seems to be inside the disk, I can't feel it from the outside..at first I thought it was a gouge or something like a fingernail slice...but its under the top layer. weird eh? could it be an air bubble or something and maybe after the heat from burning it expanded a little?

I'll try to pay more attention to the disks I burn to see if I notice it on any BEFORE burning.

I'm a little uncertain about your decription. Could you be a little more precise. what really confuses me is that you say you've only "noticed" it after burning, but until you can conclusively state whether or not these "scars" are present before burning, it's difficult to draw any firm conclusions as to their origins. I will just say for now that almost every single DVD-R I've ever bought (most of them Riteks, incidentally, so quality is not itself an issue here) have had small crescent shaped marks emanating from the absolute centre of the disks, where, it seems, there is a slight lack of adhesive, but this crescent never gets even remotely near the actual lead in, or the data portion of the disk.

I await your clarification.

Well I've been carefully examining DVD-R's before burning them and so far I haven't encountered anymore with that crescent moon shape thing on them. I'll post in here again the next time I see it.
