recover data from a compact flash card

I just realized that my holiday photos are nowhere to be found anymore. It seems the last time I cleared out the images folder (where I also put screenshot files which are then later used for my site) I was a bit too thorough. Problem is, I had the Windows camera wizard delete the files on the CF card after downloading them to the PC but I haven't used the camera since. Is there any chance to recover the pictures from the CF card (Lexar Media 8x 128MB flash card).
So, do I have to go to the Carribean again (I wouldn't mind but my boss sure would and I don't have limitless holidays) or is there still hope left (I have since pretty much filled up my HD so chances of recovery from there are rather slim I'd say).

thanks. I guess I'm off to the computer store then... and I'm seriously contemplating geting that combined CF/whatnot reader for the XPC but I kinda still need my internal ZIP when I want to boot into dos and good bootable usb2 memory sticks are still rare.
