Please forgive a stupid question from a newbie. I followed the instructions on this site for backing up the movie only using dvddecrypter and ifoedit. The problem is that the subtitles still won't come up, even after I performed the "remove pop ups" step just before i burn the movie with nero. HELP! Thanks.

I've been testing my backup dvd and the original, and have found something pretty interesting. In the original DVD, I'm not able to turn on subtitles either, unless I turn on subtitles in the main menu first. Does anyone know if this is also why I can't turn on subtitles in my backups, since I don't have a menu to turn on subtitles?

Most remotes have a Subtitle button that you can use to toggle between existing ones in your movie-only DVD.

You know, as long as i've backed up DVDs, i've rarely had the need to remove the prohibited user operations (P-UOPs), especially when menus exists. There is a reason why DVD authors put in those user operations.

Thanks for the reply, but I still don't understand how to get the subtitles to come up. Since I have a movie only DVD, I don't have a menu to access subtitles. I try to use the subtitle button on my remote, but it just tells me that the subtitles are off. Any ideas?
Thanks.
