View Full Version : Winamp 2.90 seems pretty promising

I just downloaded Winamp 2.90 full and found that it's a very fast and decent video player (dshow compatible).
When using WaveOut as sound output device, it plays every Divx just fine and you can even use the equalizer and DSP Effects (like i.e. a compressor) for the soundtrack. The video controls are nice, as well as is the OSD in fullscreen mode. Very good!
Just checked it for AC3 compatibility and I was very pleased to see that everything was working fine - it even seems you can use the EQ and DSP effects on AC3 soundtracks. This rocks! Forget Winamp 3!

ok thereal beats me to post it first...... :D
After a hours of normal usage and testing. I agree with thereal that it is very good as well. In terms of Audio it is still the same as the good old Winamp 2.x But in doom9 we concentrate on Video... ^_^
The layout of the program is still the same except with a 32Bit colour for buttons and brighter background etc. For user who get used to MPC won't like it at all since it isn't strightly design for video vewing. However i am too, surprise that it plays Divx video prefectly.
Currently the skins don't work as well as it should. But in coming weeks we should see the skin to include Video skinning as well.
The media libery is good and don't feel as bloated as others on the market. ( Well of coz it offers less functions as well. ) But you will find all the stuff you want with it.
But for me........
I am still sticking with foobar plus MPC.... ^_^

Well, I'm not huge on the video support for WA. But this new version is much much better than 3x, it starts up much faster.

... it's got some downsides: it won't play MJPEG avis on my computer, also there's no option to see the Dshow filter properties. I guess I'm going to stick with BSPlayer - still the best working player for me with all the options I need.

hmm, you can do the same things with The Core Media Player, even better. But that's just my 0.2 €
You can slaps me if you want :)

Frankly, what I find most attractive from winamp is that it runs harmlessly in the background and plays audio. Sort of counter-productive to what you'd expect from a video player.
But that's just my 2 agorot.

You're absolutely right - I just tried it and almost totally replaced Winamp as my standard mp3 player because Core Player is so good. I'm definitely using this player for video now (I'm only staying with Winamp for audio because I know it so well and I've been using it for such a long time)

That 2.9 version doesn't support videos with multiple soundtracks right?

@Blight
Agree 100%. For those who are interested, check the GD forum for the Winamp 3 thread with some juicy fights...
@DAvenger
Radlight as a video player? :scared: Hah! :rolleyes: :p :D
*EDIT: "Adware keeps software FREE" *mega sigh* Adware is not FREE software and the only thing that Adware keeps is Ad-aware on my HD! I will not cause a thread drift here with elaborating these points, if you're interested in it make a posting in GD, but I will then have to mention your interesting deininstalation routines :rolleyes: *
BTW, I still use Winamp 2.78 light version, must try, again, fubar2000 as I didn't tried it since the first betas...
Cheers,
Mijo.

You should try foobar, it's very different from what we are used to see, it's a big playlist but it have the best tagging system I have ever seen. Some will like, some won't.

Erm, sorry, don't understand you. English, please. :)
Sorry, for being so blunt, but I really don't understand some standpoints. Not to mention that some explanations back then (you know what I mean ;) ), were more than strange...
But, I don't want to insult, anger etc. you in any way. Just disagree with you.
All the best and sorry for my rant.
Cheers,
Mijo. (Mijko? :D )
