Hi,

Ive used TmpgEnc for all my mpeg needs! Recently tho, Ive been given the option of these programs;

Cinema Craft Encoder; ccesp2.25, 2.62 and sp2.50

Lsx Mpeg Encoder

Xing Mpg Encoder and

Ffdshow

I will mainly be using the program to convert my avi into vcd svcd / mpeg 1/2 formats.

Anyone any idea which one will be better for my needs? Or aware with any problems with these progs?

Many thanks

Wow an open ended question like this can open a hornets nest.

Its not as easy as saying this is better than this. There are a lot of variables to consider and your personal opinion may differ than someone elses but taking all that into consideration, let me stick my neck on the line by saying:

Most people agree that for VCDs - tmpgenc does the best job but for SVCDs - CCE is better. Tmpgenc is pretty stable and most people don't have a problem with it. On the other hand, CCE requires a very stable computer platform to work but usually gives better results.

Like I said from the start, its all up to the user and most people have their favorites they like.

ffdshow is not an encoder, it's just a playback filter and cannot be used for encoding at all.

Like Mac said, for DVD/SVCD you should use CCE, and for regular VCD use TMPEG. That seems to be the consensus here, especially as some versions of CCE have stability problems when doing VCD.
