There's a player designed by KISS technology, Denmark, that is announced to be able to playback DIVX (AVI files) content.
I just tested such a player with the latest firmware (end of march):
DIVX 4 and 5 are fine, even advanced profile (bidirect encoding, global motion compensation). But with DIVX 3.11 low motion codec there's no playback (typical SBC rip with GKnot and Nandub).
It seems that VBR MP3 sound within DIVX 5 pro rips is off sync :-(
I've been very excited before that test, but now...
It would be nice to hear something about that by others...

According to Kiss Technology, they are developing a new firmware update that will be able to play Divx 3.11 too.
And yes, VBR MP3 within AVI goes out of sync if you jump back and forth, but someone reports they are in-sync with regular playing from the beginning of the file.

The lowest price I found here in Italy is 360 Euros for the DP-450
There is also the DP-500 (with an Ethernet port too) that costs about 70-80 Euro more.

In Sweden you can buy the DP 450 for 320 Euros. In denmark you can buy the webtech DP50 exactly the same as KiSS DP500 for 320 Euros (TDC shop), that also supports streaming of video/images and MP3 from a PC server. It also supports something called Webradio.
Those things has been reported to work for many people.
I have aDP500 and I've tested with a number of XVID movies with subtitles in .sub format with great result!!! I think zooming works perfectly. I'm just exstatic about all the features it has.
Can't wait until I can download the 3.11 FW.
For most questions you'll find answers at www.kiss-technology.com and select support-DP500 FAQ. It has been updated a few days ago!!
More: It seems to run Linux operating system for an ARM 150 MHz processor and you can boot from a CD-R. When upgrading the FW you use a CD-R and burn it with the image supplied by KiSS. Examine this .ISO and you'll know what I mean.

A colleague bought a Magnavox player here in US in Blockbuster Video store for around $70 plays AVI files. I'm trying to get the model number from him and want to buy one for myself for playing downloaded files. I'll post it again after I've learned about the model number.
