View Full Version : Encoding PCM Audio(AVI) to MP2 (because of CCE)

I have my self-filmed movie cut with Pinnacle Studio and now I want to encode it for SVCD. It's an Avi with PCM Audio (44100). And now I want to encode it to MPG 1 layer 2 audio.

At the moment I extract it with Graphedit (avi/wav file source; wavdest; file writer), then encoding it with toolame and then I use bbmpg to mux it together again.
but thats very much work!

Is there a tool that does this for me?
I want to have the highest possible quality!

Which bitrates should I use for SVCD Audio? 224?
or just 192?
is VBR possible (new toolame feature)or is it not SVCD compatible?

try DVD2SVCD, it has AVI input capabilities.

As for the audio bitrate, it's really up to you. VBR should be supported by most players as it is technically not out of SVCD specs. Check this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26829) for a method to integrate vbr audio into the DVD2SVCD process. It's a bit out dated, so you'll have to modify your proceedure to reflect changes made to tooLAME. Good luck.

A method that would be a bit easier than what you do would be to demux the PCM from avi with VDub, encode to MPEG 1 layer 2 using BesweetGUI, then mux with BBMpeg.

DVD2SVCD might be easier, though...

I tried to use VBR mpeg for the audio of an SVCD disc once, but then PowerDVD 4 and WinDVD 4 wouldn't play the disc correctly. I didn't try it on a standalone - I guess you have to test it.

Thx I'll try DVD2SVCD.
VBR is not Standard=>not compatible to players, so I should use CBR audio instead!

A tool that makes a full MPG2 encoder out of CCE 2.5 is not out there?
That's a pity.

THX for your help!!!

VBR is not Standard=>not compatible to players, so I should use CBR audio instead! As I said above, it IS in spec, since the SVCD spec is:
MPEG-1, layer II from 32 to 384kbps with up to 2 stereo or 4 mono channels
Surround Sound: MPEG-2(5+1) extension
so VBR is certainly within the spec. Now, whether or not your DVD player, software or hardware, supports the proper SVCD spec is another question entirely. You have to do your own tests to find out.

That's a pity.that is exactly what DVD2SVCD does...
