Hi,

I have noted that burning DVD with Nero at 2x the movie sometimes square in some frames!!!
Using DvDDecrypter at 2x speed can I find the same problems???
Of course before the burning an ImgTool image....

Stick to 1x then.
2x isnt a standard and should probably never really have been done.

The 2x4all firmware should never have been done, and Princo should not be allowed any longer to make dvd media. Then, 2x would not cause any problem, because only media which has been tested by Pioneer would be written at 2x...

Hummm, I wonder if this is my problem. I have a thread going here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50111) that talks about "Blocky" results. Could this be caused because I'm burning at 2x using DvdDecrypter? That sounds strange as the burner supports 4x and I'm burning at 2x using 2x media. So I guess what you all are saying is that DvdDecrypter has issues with burning an image at 2x, is this right?

Do you use 2x media, or do you use 1x media which contains a faked TDK G02 code to make the burner believe that it is 2x media?

I use real TDK 2x and real Princo 2x media.

I use Verbatim 2x with a Pionner a05.
But I think the problem depends on the fact that I make or I don' t make an image file before burning.
With Nero I write directly the VIDEO_TS and the AUDIO_TS directory to the disk.
With DVDDecrypter I make before an image file.
I would only know if someone of you has problems burning with DVDDecrypter at 2x.
Problems like square pixel or problems with fast forward and rewind, navigation points not recognised etc...
In fact I need to burn some disk and I cannot every time have an hour to loose!!!
In a reply above the "father" of DVDDecrypter says that 2x is not a standard, and for me ....this is like the "Holi Bible".
But if someone of you tell me that the compatibility is allowed also with 2x burning ... I send him a kiss!!! ;-)))))))

@MasterBeta:
There is no real Princo 2x media. This crap is exactly what I spoke about: It is 1x media where the manufacturer implements a faked TDK G02 code to make the burner believe that it is 2x media.
TDK is real TDK if it is sold by TDK as TDK, otherwise it can be the abovementioned Princo stuff.
So is it correct to summerize that you probably only use 1x discs with a faked code?
@spav: Maybe you got a bad batch of Verbatim discs? These have been around for quite some time.
Or do you by chance use an expensive Panasonic DVD Player with the poorest DVD-R compatibility I've ever seen? In this case, try Maxell discs...

Well 2x media is just a slightly advanced version of the actual standard which only really allows for 1x. That is why dvd-r/-rw drives have a little lookup table in their firmware to say whether a certain disc can be burnt at 2x or not.
I dont believe for 1 second the problem is with my program. You can only write to sectors in a couple of ways, its pretty hard to get it wrong!
For cheap(ish) media, I only recommend discs based on the Ritek dye.
The manufacturer id for such discs is ususally something like RITEKG03. They've never let me down and play all the way through on my player without skipping, jumping or anything similar!

Well, I just don't get it. I can see where the princos are forged to look like 2x TDKs, but the REAL TDKs I bought from www.staples.com are not fake TDKs, so I would think they should be ok at 2x speeds. So LIGHTNING UK are you saying that the Riteks are better than the TDKs and that is what I should use? Also, are you saying that we should burn at 1x and not 2x or 4x? By the way, I'm using a Pioneer 105 burner.

If the media is up to it, burn at 2x.
If it doesnt work at 2x, but works at 1x, its not up to it!
If you have 4x media, burn at 4x.
My datasafe discs (RITEKG03 dye) burn fine in my Sony at 2x. They didnt work at all when I burnt in my pioneer a04.
Perhaps using the lastest firmware helps? (In case you're not already?).

Well I must say that with my Sony DRU500a 1.0d, I never had any problem burning at 2.4x. I used sony DVD+R and Verbatim DVD+R and be it with DVDDecrypter or Nero 5.5.10, it always worked like a charm (with or without image creation).
I know this kind of info won't help a lot, but it's just meant ot show things sometimes work :D

@waldok: when talking about recording speeds and being standard (or not), DVD+ and DVD- do not have much in common...

You are right, but the initial post didn't mention anything about DVD-R or +R, but just "burning DVD"...So...Couldn't resist opening my big mouth again :D
As far as I am concerned, I'll stick to DVD+R .

The initial dvd+r standard was 2.4x
I'd be quite annoyed if I couldnt burn the discs at that speed!

The initial dvd-r standard was 1x, and some disc cannot be burned at 1x (vivastar e.g.). Are you annoyed, or do you just not buy them :D

I have all the latest software for DVD Decryptor, IC 7.1.1, REAL Pioneer A04 and NERO. I have lived with Accu disk 1x for a year because I don't want to pay more than $1 for disks. I get one coaster out of about 200. I just bought the Maxell 2x going around for about $1.30 and thought I was thrilled. BUT it seems I get a coaster for every 15 disks and lots of blocks in the image that show up in different places on different DVD Players. None of the problems seem to show up on a software player on my computer.
Does anyone else have issues with the Maxells. Should I burn the rest of them at 1x and stay away from them...?
Anyone know of a good brand of 2x for under $1.50 US. I don't think upgrading my burner is the right thing for 4x because I won't pay $3 to $4 for 4x discs...
Any IDEAS...?
Thanks Jeff

I have a SonyDRU500, I've burned 15 Verbatim dvd- and nearly 30 Verbatim dvd+ and they play flawlessly in my JVC. I use DVD Decrypter for 1 to 1 back-ups and dvd2one+nero for reductions. I've also tried Riteks with a perfect success rate. The only discs that ever gave me trouble were some bargain Maxell's I bought from supermediastore.com, regular branded Maxell's worked fine. But fear not, you have trouble with 1 out of 15, those discs gave me trouble with 15 out of 15.

Thanks for the feedback... I just burned a few of the bargain Maxells in 1x mode and still had issues... and it appears after more testing that I am having issues with about 12 out of 15...
Meritline/Supermedia has done this to me before on their own branded media... If I could beat their prices and service I would stop buying from them...
Looks like I will be going back to my 1x reliable disks for $0.89

I applied for an RMA for all 75 of the Maxells I bought from Meritline. They responded today with a full refund RMA. I am returning 55 unused and 20 burned disks to them.
I did a return to them just a couple weeks ago for the same kind of problem with their Meritline branded 2x Media and they processed my refund in full to my account within days.
If you use Meritline.com or CDRDVDRMEDIA.com you should have no trouble returning those Maxells...
