*Possible Solution* - IC7 Access Violation 'vobsrc.ax'

I DO NOT TAKE CREDIT FOR THIS SOLUTION. IT WAS POSTED ON THE DVD2ONE.COM FORUMS EARLIER AND I AM RE-CONVEYING THE INFO IN THE HOPES THAT OTHERS WILL BENEFIT.

I am unsure if anyone has come across this or not.... but....

Some of you might have come across this ACCESS VIOLATION "vobrsrc.xc" error (IC7) OR ENCRYPTION ERROR in DVD2ONE when trying to back up a DVD.

In my case, I was unable to use IC7 and DVD2ONE because there was something about the source files that these programs did not like.

I used DECRYPT and SMARTRIP (file/iso modes)(including mounting a virtual drive)initially without success, because IC7 and DVD2ONE would display the vobsrc.ax/encryption errors and would quit.

What seemed common among other users with the same problem was that the source DVDs appeared to be UNENCRYPTED however IC7 and DVD2ONE was identifying encrypted blocks?

A poster on the above mentioned board has success using SMARTRIPPER to rip and setting the KEY-CHECK setting to ONCE. I ripped in FILE MODE and set the KEY-CHECK to ONCE.

I have tried this method on the disc that has caused my agony for about 3 weeks and I can say that my head no longer hurts because I have stopped banging it against the wall!.. In short, this method worked for me. IC7 did not give me the usual VOBSRC.ax error and continued to do its magic.

Your mileage may vary....this is the reason for the POSSIBLE in the thread title.

Please post your success stories...... hopefully there will be no failure stories.

just curious what could be the difference between once or every vob ?
What harm can be done to check every vob i.s.o. only once, you would expect the opposite

I too wonder why "once" and "every" would make a difference....

But in my case, it wasn't a fluke and REALLY made the difference. DVD2ONE and IC7 processed the files after this minor change. Otherwise they (IC and DVD2one) would consistently FAIL.

Before now, I must have re-ripped the disc about 20 times without success...

just goes to show it ain't always the fault of IC or DVD2One or any other backup tool, yet people still point the finger at them even though the problem is sometimes a lot closer to home :)

hopefully this will help such people who have these problems


but is keycheck once, not default for Smartripper?

same goes for DVDDecrypter :confused:

Dunno about Smartrip or Decrypt defaults..... because I must have changed the settings sooo often over the past couple of months using the "helpful" (no sarcasm) guides at DOOM and VCDHELP.

But I know I had Smartrip set to CHECK EVERY VOB and I didn't even know Decrypt had such a setting.... I'm probably overlooking it.

I agree that the software is NOT to blame all the time. And it appears bugs and feedback are getting back to the developers because of great communities like this one.

yeah your right, I've just deleted the INI file so I musta changed mine, cos it was on key-check once

dunno when or why I changed it tho but I've never really fussed over the settings of either ripping program

I wonder how many people actually do rip a DVD with the wrong settings?

I dunno why people don't just use file mode all the time for IC/DVD2One/DVD95Copy and sometimes goto the trouble of creating ISO's, but if it work's for them then I guess they are happy and ain't gonna change the method if it works

that's why I always ask how users rip and with what settings or any mods they have done before feeding to the program when they complain about errors cos it may be something as simple as that
