Adding chapter points to CCE encode via additional pass?

I've just spent a day encoding 24 Hour Party People. I am doing the full dvd backup -9 to -5. After the process has finished I realized that I didn't add chapter points to CCE script. Can I load up the old .ECL file into CCE and add the chapter points and just run the encoder, counting it as a 4th pass? (I've done 3pass Robshot-Bach).

As a side note, I'm quite green.

No, you need to start from scratch. The CCE manual clearly states that the video information file must be recreated after (amongst others things) changing chapter points.

Forget about chapter points in your .ecl file. I stopped doing that awhile ago. Just import the chaps into DVD Maestro. Your chaps may be a frame or two off, but you'll never notice.

I have to disagree with Famous Person on this. That frame or two could very well be 12 or so and 12 frames r quite noticable and annoying when it comes to viewability. Further more they pose a probable cause for failure when ifoupdating.

Perhaps you're right, oddyseus. I guess it's a matter personal opinion whether the trade-off is worth it. To me, even 12 frames to me is no big deal - less than 1 second.

I have to agree to this. It is a matter of personal opinion. However inserting the chapter points in CCE isn't that much of a deal. Its a simple cut and paste. I am sure u would agree that its worth it.

Normally, yes. But not in this particular case.

Also, getting slightly off track, I seem to remember why I stopped doing it in the first place. CCE (at least version 2.5) did not seem to be creating the I-frames (or whatever they're called) properly anyway. I think I remember finding that even when I did it, the chaps ended up off by a few frames. Not sure if it was the fault of CCE or DVDMaestro.

I remember reading someone else's post where they said the same thing, so I just stopped doing it & have never had a problem.

It can be off in NTSC when there are drop frames involved. But the I-Frame points are what is really important and CCE puts them exactly where you tell it to... and you can adjust to the exact point in Maestro if need be.
