View Full Version : Question about buffering

Hello all. I recently purchased a laptop, and want to try to set it up to play .avi files over the network. There is a small problem though. Currently, I am doing this by mapping drives off my home computer to this laptop, and using my campus' wifi network. The thing is, to programs this makes the drives on my home computer look like physical drives on the laptop (usually a great thing), but has the side effect of disabling buffering. Is there a player that I can force a buffer size on? WMP only buffers network content, and I cannot find the option in zoom, which is what I normally use. Maybe another player out there has this feature?

Thanks in advance,

-Chu

I took a quick look at video lan, and that is WAY OVERKILL, especially considering I have everything set up already.

In fact, it's even worse at playing "local files" then the other players I tried when the local file is really a mapped drive. The other players stutter when the bitrate jumps. VLan is completly unwatchable.

All I really want it a player where I can tell it to make a freeging huge buffer :( There *HAS* to be one out there that does this, right?
