View Full Version : How do you link Multiple VTS with one Menu in Scenarist?

I authored a multi-episode project in ReelDVD then exported it to Scenarist. What I want to do now is break each episode up into it's own VTS. I have moved them but how do I relink the episodes back to the original menu?

The manual states "Play cannot flow directly from one VTS to another but must be routed through a dummy PGC in the VMG."

I couldn't find a good example in the book This is my first Scenarist project so I'm a bit lost. Could someone shed a little more light on this for me?

Thanks

Make a language in the video manager [right-click...add language (or something like that)]....then add a pgc in that language domain (folder) for each link you need to make [not to say something you might already know, but unless you want to get involved with GPRMs, one dummy PGC = one link.] Now, you can make links between VTS's by going through that PGC [or any others you make in there]. Give your menu PGC's menu ID [such as root (default if there's only one), angle, audio, subpicture, etc.] and you'll be able to link from any dummy PGC you created in the video manager to any of the menu PGCs with IDs you have, but it sounds like that might be a bit beyond what your project requires.

This wasn't the entire method of how to do it, but provided you know how to link buttons and stuff like that, you should be ok. If not, just post to this thread.

Hope that helped,
Dan

I created the language folder and 2 PGCs linked them to Title_1_1 and Title_1_2 in the other VTSs then linked the 2 dummy PGCs to my episode menu buttons 2 and 3. Now when I use the simulation, I select episode 1 and it plays fine, but when selecting Episode 2 and 3 it just retuns to the main menu.

My project consists of 2 menus. Selecting the first option from menu 1 takes you to the 2nd menu which is the episode menu.

Here is what my scenario looks like so far:

Getting a 403 permission error when trying to access the link....

First make sure that you put the menu in a language folder in one of the VTS's.

I'm thinking that for simplicity's sake, you'll want 4 dummy PGC's in the video manager and none [dummy] in the titles. One linked to return to the menu, and 3 to get to each video. First, make a post command for each episode to get back to the menu [drag from the little post box on the pgc containing the episode to the dummy PGC that goes back to the menu]. Make a post command from that dummy to the menu.

Then, link the buttons to the dummy PGCs linked to the 3 episodes for which you just made those post commands. Now, for those 3 dummy PGCs make post commands that go to each video.

Relatively Simply:
1. Put the menu in a language folder in one of the VTS's for ease of linking.
2. Make 4 Dummy PGC's in the video manager.
3. Route one of those dummys back to the menu.
4. Route the remaining 3 dummys to the desired episodes.
5. Link the buttons in the menu to the 3 dummys.
6. Make a post command for each episode to go to the dummy that links to the menu.

Hope this helps [please reply either way...],
Dan

Hey Dan thanks that helped out a lot.

I would have responded sooner but I discovered some issues in the way I encoded my resources.

Now my only issues are with Scenchap. I tested my project and it works fine, then I export it, pull it into Scenchap import the chapters from the 3 IFO files save then re-import. Now I get an error (sorry I'm not at home so I don't have the exact one)when I try to play the simiulation. It's something about a Null image or Null pointer, I can't remember off hand. Now if I export then reimport the script (without using Scechap).

I just need to burn an RW of the project now to verify it's working the way I need it too.

Again thanks for your help.
