Another 100% oddity with Matrix.

I found another strange thing with IC7. I have upgraded to the new .119 version.

I compressed The Matrix, setting all the extras to 30% and then scaling the movie to fit. Result of the first pass was oversized at 4.54 GB.

I thought I would try recompressing the resulting first pass files. I tried to keep the movie at 100% of the first Pass, and further squeeze the extras. so I needed to set the extras at 75%, leading to a total compression of 75% of 30%, so poor quality extras, but a complete copy with the best movie quality.

HOWEVER. IC7 copies over the extras (which are titles 18 upwards, and are contained in VTS_01_0x and VTS_03_0x across without transcoding) and labouriously transcodes the Main movie (titles 1-17 on VTS_02_0x) at 100%. So the result of the second pass is the same size as the first pass, but the movie has been transcoded twice,:rolleyes: and it is 3 hours later :confused:

Any solutions or explainations ?

I can't help ya. I did the Matrix last night with .119 and it came out at 4.21GB without a problem. I sized the movie up to 61% and the extras down to 40%.

I've got my version processing now, but I've kept everything but I've seen no problems so far

My guess is IC messes up the IFO's and giving IC the job of processing it's own work is questionable

red321 did you keep all titles during the 1st process and feed IC the complete DVD to begin with?

I've just ripped it using Filemode and fed the untouched DVD to IC and let it autoresize and processing it now

everything ok so far, but I'm expecting problems during playback with the end result judging on other people's experiences

Yes, fed it the full unadultarated dvd decrypt full rip.

First time round, tried to keep the extras at 30% and everything else as big as it could go. Got a little enthusiastic and ended about 200Meg over the top. Then tried to repair the damage by resizing the extras.

Either feeding the whole thing back in, or just resizing the extras does not work, and as 30% was too big, sizing the extras from the original doesnt work either.It is obviously no big deal to run the whole thing again, but this should have worked.

Also I am still plagued by the 100% transcode problem I have mentioned before.

I am sure thta your Auto resize run wil work out, but the image will be undersized, and I dont wna tthe extras at the same quality as the main movie.:(

red321, what region is yours by the way?

it came out 4.19Gb with autoresize, which aint bad cos normally it wud be 4Gb

that was with min reg settings cos its a waste of time setting them higher anyway fro a few more MB but 10 times the analysis :)

I guess I shudda changed the settings, but too late now but I still can't understand why it went so slow as that's the only oddity I've had so far :confused:

I bet it's a mess when I extract it now :D

Just finished watching the entire movie and it played okay. I also watched the first 45 minutes with the white rabbit feature and it also worked fine. I know others are having trouble but I have not had any. i originally made a movie only copy with DVD2One and now this full copy with IC7 .119 and both played okay (getting kinda tired of watching it though :p )

Although, I did have trouble doing a full copy of "The Quiet Man" a John Wayne picture at 7.4GB. Ran it through IC twice and both time it came out just over 6.1GB :confused:

Ran it thru DVD2One full copy and it came out just fine. Strange.

what happens when you try to skip or REW/FF around chapter 10 and chapter 11 or any other white rabbit chapters?

mine played back ok if I left it but as soon as I started searching around the areas it lost the plot :D

what version you got, what's the DVD number for investigation purposes? (LOL, as if really care)

just shows, never say never when it comes to backing up DVD's cos there's always a way :p

I'm surprised it even let you load the IFO without complaining :)

All it means is that one of the titles you are reducing is somehow linked to the main titles

did you play the resulting files from the first run and check that chapter 10 runs into chapter 11 ok?

IC may have made a mess of IFO's as IC reports titles 1-15 not inc 2
,3,4,5 as the movie of 4.60Gb yet in the main IFO it says that titles 1-18 are in VTS_02

I'd have my doubts about using the 1st run's files again also

Nothing unusual. Rabbit appears on chap 10, fade from black at chap 11. This works fine skipping ahead back, FF/REW over points, no problems.

Using 7.0.1.119 on a NTSC R1 disc

the one I had was an old region 2, but at least it can be done now if IC does make a mess

at least I know what to do next time IC can't handle a multiangle DVD :)
