I am looking for a way to create a language and subtitle selection menu with a bit more than basic functionality. Still menu is sufficient for this application.

There are few subtitle selections. Now when the user chooses one of them, I'd like the the chosen track to get selected of course, but the menu should remain open and it should change so that the chosen item is highlighted, ticked etc. and will remain so, even if the user moves to another selection. In a way, I am looking for a way to "freeze" subpicture action colour until the next item is chosen (eventhough the user may well have highlighted, but selected, another stream).

I could propably achieve this if I made separate menus of each audio-subtitle combination and made a simple command sequence to jump to right menu based of user selection. This approach, however, requires great number of menus, as there are few audio streams and few subtitle treams. Furthermore, I guess this approach would result in sluggish reaction. Is there easier (as in less work involved) and better way to achieve this functionality?

I'm pretty sure you can't have more than one highlight going at the same time. As usual, your best bet is to go to the video store and rent a few DVDs to see if you can find an example to copy. In my experience, you can enter the menu with the correct language already highlighted, and you can have the highlight jump to the "Resume Movie" button after selecting a language, but you can't keep your chosen language highlighted while moving around the menu. This also means that you pretty much can't have subtitle and audio language selection on the same menu, because it gets too confusing for the user to keep track of both language selections.
