just tried posting this in the dvdxcopy forum, but it must be a violation of rules i didnt know about or something.... so i'm reposting it here...
i like dvdxcopy and the simple way it copies disks and keeps the menus etc..... but a ton of my stuff is in the form of episodic disks..... and if you've been following the developement of dvdxcopy the past few months, it is just total Cr*p at doing episodic disks atm..... they keep promising each update will fix most of the issues.... yet 3 updates and 3 months later practically nothing has been fixed :(
frustrated at not being able to backup some of my stuff.... I spy and dark shadows etc...... i kept looking for SIMPLE ways of copying the disks without reencoding..... and ifoedit finally provided a simple answer (i had been off track with it the first month or so i tried.... i was not creating the ifos i was fixing them and that made problems for me :)
so anyways... a simple procedure that so far has worked for all my disks is as follows-
1- rip your original disk with smartripper or dvddecrypter, rip in file mode and rip files. (should take less than 10 minutes if you have a decent lite-on or other 16x reader)
2- look in that dir you made and delete everything but the vobs. then divide the vobs into 2 under 4.3gb dirs (ie put the first 2-4 vobs in its own dir and the rest into another dir) then rename the vobs VTS_01_1.VOB and VTS_01_2.VOB etc in EACH of these dirs
3- then load up ifoedit , hit create ifos then browse and pick the VTS_01_1.VOB from the first dir and cerate the ifos (make output same as original vob loaction) (should take 5 minutes tops)
4- i then open up the newly created VTS_01_0.IFO in that dir and hit get vts sectors and then hit save (this step might be skipable but i do it anyways to correct any lower case i might have done in renaming etc)
thats it then just burn with nero (another 28 minutes if yer 2x burnin)
so about 45 minutes for the first disk in total and 30 or so for the 2nd one..... less total if the original disk isnt maxing out the dvd9 space....
(oh yea you do loose the menus etc but not any of the extras at least not in any disks i have done)
ps- if you want to make sure you have each episode complete on one disk and not breaks in the middle of episodes and have to change disks then you can use smartripper and rip each pgc/episode and do the above renaming.... works just the same)
