1. It seems like when I check NONE when using dvd2avi and go to the next step of using opening the d2v file into Gordian Knot I get an error that says the file is not usable.

If I use Forced Film I am able to load the file into gordian and finish the job.

2. There are always several audio files to choose from when I get to the select an audio file part of Gordian Knot. The files are of various sizes and some even have different delays.

Which is the best file to choose.

I am using the DivX How to DivX and Gordian Knot guide off the DivX.com Support page I am getting some dvd's processed with some success. I have been reading all I can even though I don't understand it all and making slow progress.

3. I also noticed the instructions say not to use forced film unless the film is at 29.970 fps and says Film > 95 % I have had to use forced film even on 23.976 fps to get files that would open the d2v in the next step using Gordian Knot.

4. Sometimes I open a set of VOB's in DVD2AVI the data window shows a flickering word PROGRESSIVE what is going on there. How do I handle the situation?

Welcome to the forum.
Strange. Have you tried to make sure you are using the original v1.76 of DVD2AVI, the one included in the Gordian Knot rip-pack?
Well, I'd choose the one containing english audio if I was you. Look at Doom9's download page (http://www.doom9.org) for a AC3filter (might need to click 'show all' to find it) That will enable you to playback the file in media player, or use DVDDecrypter (also included in the GKnot Rip-pack) to demux audio. That will name the files after the language they contain.
Have you tried to create an .avs containing the following:LoadPLugin("<path>\mpeg2dec.dll")
Mpeg2Source("DVD.d2v") and open that in Gordian Knot (or VirtualDub). If it works then there is nothing wrong with the .d2v. Try clearing the registry from GKnot settings, this is done on the 'Options' tab of GKnot.
Slightly depends on how much and how often. You should most likely not use 'Force FILM' on that material, but IVTC manually (use Decomb) or leave it at 29.97fps.
Just a reminder of Rule #9 (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.html) - use a title that describes the contents of your post.
