Hi all,

Forgive me for posting here, I don't really know where this one belongs! I have a movie ripped by DVD2SVCD (mpeg2) that I want to cut a piece out of with the TMPGE "merge and cut" tool and present in a classroom setting, but is has some stuff that needs to be censored for it to be appropriate. Is there a favorite tool out there for blurring specific spots in an mpeg stream, as well as muting the volume in spots? Is this possible with freeware tools? Thanks in advance.

it seems that for what you want to do a whole re-encode will be nessesary at least for the visual blurring. YOU could use Avisynth to blur or black out areas of your screen. But I'm assuming the things that need to be blurred will be moving with the action on the screen. At that point I'd reccomend a NLE like Premiere or something.

For the sound editing thats easy. Get your hands on AUDACITY (an open source wav form editor I have not a link. But google is your friend) and play through the sound and replace the naughty words wiht a nice beeping sound. Then remux the audio (I know audio re-encode quality loss et al. But it's easier than having to track moving parts of a movie to blur).

Hope this helps.
