Hello All,
I need someone to help me better understand some terms that are commonly used in the DVD structure. I have not found a clear and concise explanation that makes sense to me….I still have some gray zonee....Apologies if I am posting to the wrong forum, but this seems appropriate
Basically I am trying to bridge the gap b/w the physical VOB files I extract and the logical breakdowns that are done by the DVD authors of recorded DVD’s.
Here goes:
1: What is the difference between a TitleSet and a physical VOB file set(for a single set ex: VTS_01_X.VOB ... VTS_01_n.VOB).
2: What is the difference between Titles (I know multiple titles can reside in a single Titleset) and VOB ID’s – are they one and the same?
3: What is the difference between VOB ID’s and Cell ID’s?
4: What is the difference between cell’s and chapters?
5: What is a PGC? Is it the same as Titles in a Titleset? When I burn a DVD using my settop Philips recorder with multiple titles and try and rip the DVD using DVD Decrypter, I see that even though the VOB file set is one single set, there are multiple PGC’s, one for each title I created.
6: How is a PGC different from titleset, like when I buy commercial DVD’s, I see that the movie is one single set of VOB files, while perhaps the extras like Making Of may be a different set of VOB files…However, if I were doing the same with my set top recorder, I would basically create two titles, one for my movie and one for the Making of documentary, however, upon ripping, I would find that both titles belong to the same set of VOB files (VTS_01_X.VOB).
Please help clear some of these concepts for me. I am a technical person who feels uncomfortable playing with stuff unless I totally understand the physical and the logical structure of a DVD. I understand some of these, but I want to clear the gray zone and get it concretely right…
