Any of the one latest DirectX 9 compliant (ATI chips 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800) features some technologies called FULLSTREAM™ and VIDEOSHADER™.
I don't know wether this is achieved using the Pixel Shader or wether it's a technology of it's own, but can't the DirectX 9 compliant videocards be used with possibly much speed improvement over the CPU's?
Aren't the DivX guys in partnership with ATI to develop much faster encoding?

Actually, I believe that those are for decoding, reducing the blocks in the output.

Those silly patented names they have are nothing more than Deringing and Deblocking. Whoopie.

Plus, using those causes the card to write directly to the DirectDraw overlay, so there's no way they could be utilized in AVISynth anymore than the video card's MPEG2 accelleration routines.
