View Full Version : C-Dilla and InstantCopy ?

Does C-Dilla come with InstantCopy ? I heard it is something to do with Macro protection. I tried to uninstall it, but when I reset I got the error on startup "Driver problems with Instant Copy, do you wish to automatically correct this?" (or words to that effect). So I clicked "yes" and then I went back in to my uninstall options and C-Dilla was back again. So, is that a coincidence or is it related ? I am finding it a tough job to find out exactly what C-Dilla is.

No ...c-dilla is copy protection that many complained about with 2003 TurboTax (I used the webversion past few years, same interface). It writes to your boot sector. The thing about InstantCopy is just most likely an ASPI layer or a low level device to your DVD-Burner is my best guess.

Hmmm, I wonder what I have that uses it then, weird. The reason I mentioned about Macrovision is because it is mentioned on their site : http://www.c-dilla.com

I thought perhaps this was how Instant Copy knew the DVD was copy protected. Maybe it is WinDVD that uses C-Dilla ? As I have that.

There's also the new protection from Macrovision that some games (Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries for example) use that install a program that monitors what you burn to CD, and has been reported to destroy your ability to burn *ANY* CD in some cases. It's nasty. It runs as a service in XP (look for C-Dilla in the services... Macrovision bought C-Dilla), and if you get rid of it, delete the files it installs, it reinstalls the next time you run the software UNLESS you run it as a limited user. (Of course, doing that means you can't save your config in the game.) If you delete the DLL in the game directory that it calls, the game then won't load.
