View Full Version : Getting DTS track to start

In trying to save space I usually will keep only the DTS audio and commentary, if any, on a DVD. My question is how to get the DTS track to start with the movie like it does when you click on it in the audio section of the dvd. Namely the DTS intro plays and then the movie starts. I'm not sure as to how to as what program to use but I would assume it would be IFOEdit. If anyone could give me general hints it would be helpful since so far all the dvd's I've come across with DTS have the intro and play it this way, you click on audio from the main menu, then click dts, and then click play which gives you the nice dts logo and then the movie in dts. So I am assuming no movie info is needed but if you do my latest project is 8 mile so you can use that or anyone you have.
Thanks,

you would use a GPRM (which you set to 1 when the user selects DTS in the menu), and when you press the play button on the menu, a command sequence should check the GPRM value, and play the DTS trailer if its 1 (the end action of the trailer will be the start of the movie, with audio stream set to the DTS stream, which may require another command sequence). if the GPRM is not 1, then you would jump directly to the movie with the other audio stream selected

Hmm ok maybe I should clarify I'm doing full backups an already existing DVD to DVD-R. Basically I would like to have the dts trailer play and then the movie, whether it be from the start, clicking on play or if they actually went through to audio and clicked DTS and then play. If I posted in the wrong forum I'm sorry I'm thinking maybe I need to post this in the IFOEdit forum. The last thing is usually a movie is setup to start with the ac3 track but I've figured out a way around that by changing the value stored in the IFO but there might be a cleaner way.

Most movies will set the audio stream to 1 making this the default. If you want to play a different audio stream by default, you can change this value using IFOEdit. What I usually do, is remove any commands that set the audio stream. My set top DVD player then will pick the best audio stream available in the following order DTS->DD5.1->DD2. This way, when I play the DVD in the main room, which has a DTS decoder, DTS is used by default, but when played in the bedroom, or in my sons bedroom, which don't have DTS decoders, DD is used by default. I never need to choose an audio stream this way.
Getting the DTS trailer to play after removing the commands to set the audio stream when the DVD is played in a DTS capable player will requiring heavy modifications with IFOEdit. I have done this on one DVD, but it wasn't worth the work. What I did was removed all of the original links/jumps to the DTS trailer, then added PRE commands in the main movie title to see if the DTS audio stream is being played and if GPRM(x)=0 (x being a GPRM not being used), if both are true, then play the DTS trailer. I then also modified the DTS trailer, adding the following POST commands to set a value 1 to GPRM(x), and jump to the main title.
