How do I convert a MPEG file to iMovie DV steam file ?

Please be more specific. What are you trying to do? Where does your "MPEG" file come from and what format does it have (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, ...)?

Well I have the ATI all in wonder in my other
coputer (PC) and I downloaded a clip from an
old video in MPEG2 format (.mp2/.mpg), and
now I want to edit it in my iMac using iMovie,
what should I do in order that iMovie will
read the movie file ? I know that iMovie
needs a mini DV stream file.

Ok, a possible way would be to use fccHandler's VirtualDub-MPEG2-AC3 to open the MPEG-2 file.
Then set Video to full processing, resize to 720x576 (PAL) or 720x480 (NTSC), Video Compression to your favourite VfW DV codec (needs to be installed).
Set Audio to full processing, and choose uncompressed.
Save as AVI; you should get a DV type-2 file. If you need type-1, then convert it (e.g. with one of the proggies mentioned in the Links sticky thread).

Depending on the kind of MPEG-2 file you have you might need some pre-processing like creating a program stream by using PVAstrumento or ds.jar.

It's possible to use Avisynth with the regular VirutalDub, too.

Well, since it's really complicated to convert
the mpeg files to mini dv / quicktime, I decided
to edit the clips with my PC and not the iMac,
I still don't understand why iMovie doesn't
support MPEG files .. but that's another issue.

Another way to do it might be DVD2AVI + AVISynth.

Pretty much follow any of the DVD->DivX guides that use a DVD2AVI->AviSynth->VirtualDub chain, and use your MPEGs instead of .vobs and export to a DV AVI rather than a DivX AVI.
