First, please revisit the forum rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm), as you seem to have missed #4. It's one of our most important.

Second, the software that comes with the card has multiple drivers -- I don't use the software any more, but I seem to remember a slew of drivers -- Crossbar, Tuner, Video, Audio --- and perhaps one or two others. You may want to check your H/W driver list and see if any appear in the "?" Other Devices list, and, if so, attempt to reinstall the appropriate driver(s).

Third, as I'd mentioned to you in your previous post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49039), after much testing with this card I switched to BTWinCap drivers, and do not use the Aver software. I did so due to flexibility of capture technique, as well as fewer dropped frames. You may wish to do the same, as it would render your problem academic, should you be unable to solve this particular problem.

With the BTWinCap drivers, you should be able to use any WDM compliant capture tool, such as Vdub, AVI_IO, and the others mentioned or linked to in the FAQ.

bt8x8 audio section is not used anyhow...
sound is captured by sound card,and not
bt8x8's audio portion.....
(even on tv-tuner cards as opposed to pure video capture cards
without a tuner)
if this stays with "?" even after btwincap
(or you can get video with your present drivers)
have no worries.....that part is not used anyhow....

The Aver card is Msoft PnP -- and when the driver database refreshed, it must have scanned for new devices.

My card came with a short male<->male cable to take audio out from the card and loop back to my soundcard's (well, motherboard with built-in sound) line in. The installation instructions referenced that cable as well. If you don't have the cable, and there's nothing in the installation instructions about it, then perhaps you and I have different cards.

I can't answer regarding the tuner -- I use the S-video or Composite video connections only. You may not be aware that RF is the worst choice for analog video connections. The general consensus is: Component Video S-Video Composite Video RF

You've managed to confuse me regarding your video input:Why is the tuner quality so crappy?and then you posted...giving it to the card through the composite input...so I assume your "crappy" comment referred to when you tried to use RF, and you're happy with the composite video. Recently there's been some discussion about RF-in in this forum which you must have missed. Shielding was apparently key ... both of the RF cable and of the RF tuner on the card. (The latter might be affected by other equipment in and around the PC, and moving the card to another PCI slot may make a difference.) When I installed my AverTV card, I also ran the short patch cable from the Aver card's audio-out to my soundcard's line-in. I run stereo audio in (from VHS etc) to the Aver card. I still do this today with BTWinCap and Vdub. Audio into the Aver card first, then audio out from the card into the soundcard's line-in.

I cannot help you with installing the BTWinCap drivers, since you only said, "they didn't work."

Perhaps you should check for newer drivers at www.aver.com and/or request their technical support. However, if you get it working, you will be limited to using their software unless you use one of the BTxxx drivers available, such as BTWinCap. Their software is MPEG-1/2 capture, but it's a software capture, and as I'd mentioned more than once, I got better results capturing in a codec designed for capturing, rather than the cpu-hogging MPEG-2.

If everything is working except the RF quality, then share the results with the community to get an opinion. Attachments are currently broken; so put an image or two on your website and post the link. I'm betting it's interference. :-)

Time to either go to Aver for support, or remove Aver software and drivers and select a driver set from the FAQ. You'd said BTWinCap drivers "didn't work" but I don't know what that means.

On WME, in order to get BTWinCap drivers installed, I first had to run the installer and remove all BT drivers (after removing the Aver software). Then, I rebooted to have the PnP card try to find drivers. I had to attempt to "automatically search for drivers" on an empty diskette drive and empty CD drive. After pressing the "Finish" button, there would be 2 PCImultimedia devices in the "Other Devices" section of my hardware config, without drivers. If I didn't do this, WME's auto-scan for PnP devices during bt install would screw things up.

At that point, I would run the btinstaller again, and it would install drivers on those two devices, move them into the proper category, and they would work fine.

I let the btinstaller "autoconfig" the devices, then just told it I was in country 222 (US), NTSC, etc.

The screenshot you took shows what appears to be a black 720x480 image. So it doesn't really show me terrible or messed up.

I do not know why the BT drivers aren't working for you, and cause a freeze. As I described earlier, in order to get them installed properly on WME, I had to 1) first let the OS discover the hardware, 2) let it attempt to install a driver, and 3) have it not find one. You might need to do the same. I don't have XP, so don't know.

When you installed the drivers, what settings did you use? When I installed, I used the following settings:

Video Capture Card: "[000] - Use Autodetected"
Tuner model: "Autodetect if possible, else TV won't be usable"
Has TDA9855 on board - no
TV Tuner natively can tune FM radio - no
TV Tuner natively can't tune FM radio, but will try - no

Select your country: "[222]- U.S.A. (1,NTSC-M)"
Country Code: "1"
Default Video Standard: "NTSC-M"

In addition, Vdub did not work with the Aver drivers, only the Aver software would work. I'm not sure how you succeeded to get Vdub to work without VfW or WDM drivers.

The movie screen in that picture is black because print screen doesn't show the movie.... Open offending .avi in Vdub find frame Use Ctrl-1 or the menu command "Video...Copy source frame to clipboard" Paste image into favorite image editor Save as JPEG.I can't explain the TDA option, sorry.

in card cnfig choose th eone closest to yur (if it didn't autedetect in proper
way...)
installer and no-installer versions are off course different...
i have used this automated (installer) version with great sccess.......

it is known that certain drivers don't work good with
wdm->vfw wrappe rthat VDub uses so you get only lores...
btwincap doesn't have this problem...
i think iuLAB modified wdm drivers shouldn't have these problems too..
(i regard theses two as practically the only choice for bt on wdm...
yes...you can try original bt wdm drivers too...if you haven't already....)

VDub won't capture that (sound from bt8x8 device) as i doubt it detects it at all:
i don't know if windoz detects that at all...or if it can accept 2
audio capture devices at once etc.
i doubt that can work......
also that would mean that sound and video are mixed in stream that
memory (and VDub) receive....it's too complicated....
VDub uses soundcard and then IT (VDub) mixes sound and video into
avi...and not bt8x8 device as it should be IF the bt was used for both
video and audio capture...give that one up..resort to sound card solution
only.....forgett that you have DBX (if you have it....obviously driver won't install
probably because you already installed drivers for sound card....)
also have you checked "system info"?
my 2 OS'(98 and w2k) have this troubleshooting utility that comes with win
it's pretty neat....

seems like i has dbx stereo decoder,but it doesn't attempt

BOTH audio and video through your AVER tv-card:this means that YOU WILL succeed in capturing audio and video BUT ONLY if you use your existing sound card

VDub is configured to work in that way..(and any other program for capturing....capture program knows how to mix sound (from sound card) and video (from bt8x8 card) into avi...it doesn't know how to make an avi if it receives 1 stream with both video and audio.....
i think that even widoz forbids this:have you ever seen windoz OS that had 2 devices in audio mixer settings?
like it had "sound blaster PCI" AND "bt8x8 audio capture" to choose from?

my system has drivers ok (no "!" at any portion of bt8x8 driver)
and still no trace of "bt8x8 audio capture" (or so) if i wanted to capture sound via bt8x8 audio device......

i BELIEVE this is impossible....

you should try specialised WDM capture progs
(VDub is vintage VFW model,premiere probably too,but premiere is not serious thing for analog capturing)
along the lines of
iuvcr,atv2000,virtualvcr or such.......
(but btw. btwincap works fine on my system even with VDub....but don't install it if it makes the system lock..off course....BUT
if it makes VDub lock...hmmm i said VDub is VFW and NOT WDM system...
it uses wdm->vfw wrapper to do its job in wdm system....)
suggestion:if you tried drivers i mentioned (btwincap or iulab tweaked
bt wdm) and still no luck,then revert to default drivers and see what happens.......
also it would be fun to see what driver are u using now (screenshot if possible or just type in teh data from dev.manager...)

"legacy video capture..." is the wdm->vfw wrapper that i mentioned
VDUb uses it to "understand" wdm capturing systems....
this wrapper is a go-between the VDub's vfw and w2k's (And xp)
wdm system.......

btw. was on aver web and saw they (now?) have "certified xp drivers"
for tv cards.....
(so if you haven't tried them,consider THEM your last solution....)
you can get universal wdm drivers (iu tweaked) on
"atv2000" web....(use google)

i ment to dig up a bit deeper into manager..like
clickin properties on the video section of capture driver,then
onto details to see who is provider of the driver files
(for btwincap it's "illusionhope"....)
