Hi.

I just encoded The Brotherhood of The Wolves. DVD2AVI said that the Aspect Ratio of the movie is 16:9 however, after opening it with GKnot in the Preview Window, if 16:9 was selected, the faces appeared a beet "squeezed". The INFO file which was extracted with GKnot reports the movie as 4:3, but the INFO file had been wrong many times in the past. Howeevr, the frame of the 16:9 encoded DivX movie was about 1:3 of the TV frame it was displayed at (it appeared too small). So does anyone know what the correct AR of the movie is ? And which is the best way to be sure about a movies AR ?

Thanks in advance.

If you mean the 2001 film, "Le Pacte des Loups" -- in English, "Brotherhood of the Wolf" -- looking at both www.imdb.com and at www.universalstudios.com -- I found both said the same thing: that the R1 DVD (the only one released so far) is 2.35:1, Anamorphic Widescreen. But a 2.35:1 film -- this one was shot in Super 35 -- which is an anamorphic film process anyway, where the image is squeezed onto the film and then expanded when projected -- can be transferred to DVD with either a 4:3 or 16:9 DAR, depending on the method.

Here's what I'd do:

Pick a DAR. After pixel cropping if the aspect ratio isn't approximately 2.35:1, then try the other DAR.

Yes, I got it. It's 4:3 after all. Thanks a lot.
