i see exactly what you are getting at but having had a look through some of the other posts and also a look at your guides(which come in very handy)the process using ifoedit seems reletively easy but having tried it with some of my dvds with loads of pgcs vob ids etc it just looked far too time consuming and alot of hardcore dvd stuff to learn when all i want is to watch a movie! cos bare in mind most people dont come home from work and sit at there computer all night(not suggesting that you do),well my point is that ive done 26 dvds with ic removing titles and not one freeze, block, error or bad disk, now all i can say is that yours would be the "correct way"to do it but if im careful!!!! which titles i remove i dont get any probs and ive burnt with ic 15dvds nero 6dvds and dvddecryptor 5dvds they all play in my player and 2 of my mates.
p.s having said all that i always love to know how things work its something ive always done so i guess i may go back and have alook at the guides someday!

so what about the wasted 650MB if I had used IC to remove the title 5 in the simpsons?. This will have a big effect on the Movie quality and I suggest you check the size of A DVD before you process and see if IC is missing something
how many of your backups contain VOB's that you thought you'd removed? :D. You won't know it's there cos you probably won't play it from the menu but it's still there wasting valuable space
what about if you get a new DVD that is fussy and won't play all your backups that you used IC for?
these are all things to consider and that's why I put the extra few minutes into stripping with IFOEdit :)
obviously I cannot force you but I highly recommend it until Pinnacle fix these bugs
DVD95Copy does a great job with IFO's as it creates a cell entry for every blank PGC of 0.15 secs
this will ensure the DVD will play back in any player and this is what IC should do and not have to be done manually
and just wait till you see my next trick :D

ive heard mixed reports about dvdcopy whats your verdict overall?
as for my backups not working they have worked on 3 different players so far so im not too worried about them.besides soon enough there will be a prog that allows you to do what ever you like to a dvd and still work perfectly, cant wait! the advancements in dvd copying have been fast and will no doubt render most of the guides obsolete, although i did enjoy fiddling with all the different progs i will not miss the time consumption and overall messing around you had to do,having said that i do still use some of the old ways cos i make my own dvds(editing home/holiday clips,no not porn!!!lol).
p.s i think i read you updated your version of ic with the new patch ive got it but im alittle apprehensive about using it cos mine works ok,the ole if it works dont fix it springs to mind.

overall verdict : BUY IT (you wont be disappointed and if you are ask for a refund cos it got a 10 day cooling of period)
I agree if it works don't try to fix it but I would check that IC is reporting the true size of you DVD's just in case its wasting space
but my new trick invloves some work but you get anywhere from 5% to 15% extra quality setting for the main movie Title in IC
dunno if anyones interested tho

MisterX,
The problem DVD, Rocky Horror, I've check this size issue and it does seem to have a missing 0.14GB. I've done your "trick", but it never does find the missing 0.14. I verified that all subtitles and soundtracks are enabled, everything is 100%. I've noticed that the main movie(title1&2, Video title set 7), even when set to 100%, shows: Video data size: 4.25GB(5.23GB), Transcoded size: 4.25GB (5.12GB) WHAT???????
Title 3 (video title set 7 also), shows Video data size: 895MB (1.11GB), Transcoded size 895MB (1.08GB) WHAT??????
Where is the 0.14 going??? I wonder if this why I and several others have IC crash at about 98%
Any ideas??

now that is weird
when you saw that did you try sliding the % bar up and down again cos if you uncheck/check audio IC does not update the sizes when you click the VIDEO TAB again
check all audio then move the slider down then back up again and see what happens
it does update the complete Datasize at the bottom, so is this also 0.14Gb shy of the complete DVD?
did it go by up any size when you did click the automatic box?
have you tried renamimg the PDI to .VOB and checking which bit of video it crashes on?
98% sounds like it in the end credits. Which Titleset is it analysising when it crashes?
are the end credits blank for any long period?, it may work if you remove them or the offending VOB ID if you can afford to lose it

I did move the sliders around a lot and also clicked/unclicked things to see if I could get IC to find the 0.14GB. The datasize bar graph also shows the 0.14 missing.
In the next couple of days I hope to play with this more to see where its crashing and if I can remove the VOB ID (I suck at IfoEdit, so this could be a real task! :D ) I deleted the .pdi's before I thought about renaming and checking the crash point. DOH! I just need to find time now to let IC run for another 2 hrs to recreate the files.
I'll post my results once I can do some more research.

One more info :
If you use SmartRipper (without ASPI, which means VobDec - cryptographic analysis), it often has problems with small VOB files, it then often can't find the correct key. Or if there is a new key for a VOB file, but only one key is searched for the title set.
Anyway, this can result in a small part that is still encrypted (which is usually told by the programs), or even worse is decrypted but with a wrong key (the previous key).
Best way to copy the files to harddisk is to use SmartRipper in ASPI mode (DeCSS mode) and to seek a new key for each VOB.
If the 98% mark is for that title set a new VOB file (which is then very small) it might be the source of the problem, try to play with WinDVD or PowerDVD the last VOB of that title set, it still have to be video (and not trash) on the screen...
(Never tried DVDDecrypter though... Don't know how that one works...)

Thanks Aragorn, I will try that to see if the last .vob is small and non-unencrypted.
