View Full Version : OGM Muxing Troubles

OK, so I was just about to make a 1 CD AVI-AC3 backup of a movie when I thought to myself "hey, I wonder what ogm is like" so I fired up vdubmod to find out. I loaded the .avi I had already encoded using Xvid, then I selected a 2.0 AC3 audio file and a .srt subtitle file for the inputs.

I had vdubmod mux them together, then I played the .ogm file. Everything worked fine except that the video stutters horribly. You can notice it when the camera pans; about every second the video will stutter. This is not present in the original .avi video file.

I thought maybe there was some problems with using AC3, so I converted it into .ogg audio, but the same thing happened. I tried loading the .avs, then using the .ogg audio and .srt subtitles and encoding the video using Xvid - same problem, video still stutters.

So I downloaded OggMux-0.9.4.2 and used that. BINGO, problem solved, video looks great, no stutering. Only thing is, OggMux doesn't like the .srt subtitle file, which worked fine in Vdubmod. It gives me a "File Render Error" with "Can't render input file C:\...\sub.srt" as the description.

So, finally, my questions:

1. Am I doing something wrong in vdubmod to cause this stuttering? Is this a common problem?

2. Why does oggmux not accept the subtitles, but vdubmod does?

3. Are there any other ogm muxing programs that work better/as well as these two?

i guess there is something wrong with the .srt file?

To answer this question, you need to install SubTitDS1400! You can download this program from: http://tobias.everwicked.com/subtit.htm! I had this same problem, but this cleared it up. Also, if you havn't installed it already, install OggDS0995which you can download here: http://tobias.everwicked.com/ ;) , wish you luck.

Forgot to mention, you may want to try using GraphEdit build 011008. It accomplishes the same thing, but is a little more involved than OggMux. You can download it here: http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/graphedit.html

OggMux was coded just because graphedit is a bit complicated to set up ;) also, features like chapters etc. are very evil to enter that way ;)

It uses the same "graph building routines", so using graphedit instead of oggmux doesn't solve any problems.

EDIT: btw., in the "releasenotes.txt" - which you read of course - there's a line embedded in exclamation marks. Guess what it states... *eg*

OK, I installed SubTitDS1400 and that fixed the Oggmux subtitle problem, works great.

I found out what the Vdubmod stuttering problem is caused by. The video plays smooth if I don't mux the subtitles. But when I make a rip with subtitles the video stutters horribly.

Should I post this problem in the vdubmod fourm or has there already been a thread about this?

Oh, and is there any chance that oggmux will support .ac3 files in the future?

It does support AC3. You just need to convert the AC3 to an AC3-WAV(with BeSweet) and then set the encoding quality to 0 so it doesn't try to re-encode the AC3-WAV to Ogg.

Yeah, I know, I was just wondering if you would be able to just mux the original AC3, to save a step in the process. Because I noticed that Vdubmod can do that, but oggmux doesn't.

About that stuttering video...

When I mux a .ogm with 2 audio streams, now with oggmux, the video playback stutters. Except... if, during playback, I switch to the second audio stream the video looks smooth. I can then switch back to the first audio stream and the video looks smooth.

Anyone else have this problem? I don't know why it's choppy until I change audio streams. After that I can select any stream and it's smooth.

Did you try the search? This gets annoying now as you're asking those questions which are answered 100 times here.

Last warning before taking action (=strike for not using the search).

Uncheck "Enable all streams" in the OGG DSF configuration.
