When I try different DVD+RW media which are not Ricoh brand I cannot erase the media anymore after one burn session.

Tested DVD+RW media: TDK, Verbatim, Sony
Ricoh MP5125 with firmware 1.51
win 98se
Same problem with different burm apps: Nero, Record Now Max, Discjuggler

I am using a RICOH DVD+RW 5125 DVD burner which works quite good.
No problems experienced up to now with Ricoh DVD+R and DVD+RW media.

Can anyone help me???

Well im just on the original firmware
but yeah the Ricoh +RW burner has being good to me, but what error does it give you?

Its weird, ive used the +RW it came with ALOT and I had to use the emergency eject with one burn which went bad for some reason, anyway after that I kept getting a SCSI target error, and it wasnt errasing it. but yeah I just shutdown the Pc started it up later asnd it was erasing again fine, but seems very odd that its not working on other brands ive burnt few other brand DVD+Rs with it but no other +RW's. Only thing I could think of is maybe your PC needs a format or its the firmware upgrade.

Depends on what error its giving you I guess.

I'm not sure what you mean by "erase the media". Did you try to "erase" only or did you try to burn directly over an already burnt DVD+RW ?
I never "erase" media before burning and it works fine. The only thing I have to do is erase/format before first use, but never again after that.

Its the same as waldok for me. I use Gear Pro 6.03. If you try to erase it tells you off!

It is impossible to overwrite or erase these DVD+RWs.

Nero says: SSCI target error
Discjuggler says: unknown media or invalid last track mode or communication error

What does DVD Decrypter say?

To format in DVD Decrypter, right click the drive selection drop down box and choose 'Format' -> 'Full'.

When applying full format with DVD decrypter it says nothing but the disk is still full and not writable.
When applying full erase DVD Decrypter says:
I/O Error....
Interpretation: Cannot write medium: Incompatible Format

So you get no error with full erase? That means it should be working!
Does it return immediatly after doing that, or after say 30 seconds.

I wouldnt have expected 'erase' to work - thats why I said try format :)

Full format: after 5 secs finished without comment, result and still same content on disc

Full erase: the described failure message comes immmediately up.

What do you think?

DVD+RW discs cannot be erased. They can only be overwritten

Your drive must just not let your format an already formatted disc.
I have tried doing it myself with my sony and it formats as many times as you like.
Once formatted, 'Erase' should basically write a whole bunch of zeros to the disc.
From a programmers point of view, you cant 'Erase' a DVD+RW in the same way you do a 'DVD-RW'. DVD+RW just doesnt support the 'Blank' MMC command - Hence the error you got when you tried it with my program.
I've changed the logic slightly in the new version so it doesnt confuse people. You get an Erase Quick / Erase Full and the program decides on what it needs to do depending on the type of media in the drive.
