Adobe premiere?

Greetings. I tried searching for this in these forums, but didn't really find anything much of use.

I have an excerpt from a movie.. I wanted to make it fade in at the start, and fade out at the end, so I thought maybe Adobe Premiere could do it.. Now, I'm no Premiere expert, but I recall doing some short stuff with it and it all worked find.. Not this time tho. If I would open the clip in Premier, it would play just fine.. but if I start a project, then put the clip on timeline, and play it, the preview window would be blank.. nothing, no audio, no video..

Any ideas or directions?

If your source video isn't DV type 2, you need to render the work area first before you can view the clip in the preview window.

Maybe it also works if you set the project settings to the exact format of your source clip, but I'm not sure.

btw. now that Doom9 has this nice Non Linear Editing Forum, this thread should be moved there :)

how can I convert it to DV type 2 video then? Or do I have to recompress it to get that? :(

I guess your video clip is not DV and you don't want to convert it to DV in the end?

Then I wouldn't convert it to DV at all - to see the preview, just render the work area.
Right click on the area that is yellow in my screenshot and select "render work area" - then you should be able to see the preview (however it may take a while).
But you have to re-render the movie anyways if you want to fade it in and out (but you don't need to re-render it to DV type 2 if that is not the format you want)

oh, that does work, indeed, yes. tho it's really not comfy - i can't keep rendering it all the time, it takes ages :( and i want to see the preview - i have no idea how to do fade-in/fade-out, so i just keep experimenting..
