Hello,

My friend is getting into ianime and I've been ripping him a few eps mainly b/c I don't want him to touch my collections. Now I have EVA and I ripped the first disc (original printing that was interlacted [all my other discs dvd2avi reports them as teleclined]) but the second is a biznitch!

I can't get the video synced with the subs and audio (the audio and subs are synced but the picture isn't).... I've tried MANY thing...leave it at 29.97 and then IVTC doesn't owrk...force film and then de-interlace doesn't work...I even tried to resync the subs.

Now I looked and did a search on this forum and it seems there was a topic (mentioned by someone who was helping someone else) that dealt with this indepth but I can't find it (I tried seraching Eva, Neon, Evangelion, and Genesis)

So i'm sasking for help...

BTW if I DON'T add subs the audio and video sync perfectly.

I serached many sub threads and if I can't do it I'll prolly F my friend but I'm not such a mean guy :p and it'd be nice to have backups just in case (350 megs each episode :) )

If ANYONE can help...thanks! I'm using Gnot v.27 and I'm not a total techie but I definitely know my way around Gknot (And Virtual Dub but I'm no expert)

Okay I've tried more stuff but still nothing....What I did was load up a program called SUBRIP and I got it converted to .SSA and thenloaded it up with Substation Alpha. I went then and quickly converted my .ac3 to .mp3 and then using Winamp I quickly mad e a8bit, mono, 480000khz (I forced it to that...should it have been 44.1k?) and found that the first talking part occurs 943MS faster than the subs...meaning I should push the subs up ahead right?

I though I had won :sly:

So I went to Gknot opened up my original vobsub subs and put 943 and it wasn't syncing with the picture :( so I tried a negative just to see if anything happens and nothing would happen. I tried slightly adjusting it and it threw the subs off a LOT (there was a huge difference betwenn 943 and 850)

Just to make sure...1000ms=1 sec? ya?

So does anyone have any idea what to do? PErhaps a new ripping approach because I'm very confused over what should/might happen.

BTW, sorry about my n00b approach in attempting to rip it (IE winamp and how I got the timings and whatnot)

Thanks

I just noticed something:

When i would load up the subs in Vobsub resyncer the vobsub timing would match the audio perfectly...

So i figured" Encode the movie silent and then add in subs manually through VDUB"

I was stoked and just before i began encoding i noticed something:

My Audio is 1:50:02 but my VIDEO is 1:34:19 (I have no idea how this happened)

to increase confusion my subs match with my video.

How is audio near TWENTY MINUTES LONGER and it was all ripped off the same VOB? I checked the end and freakishly the ending is synced i think. I matched the last two minutes without a problem (as in if i go from the last two minutes of each part they are synced)

How does something like that just grow

EDIT:

To further confuse me I reripped out the .ac3 using dvd2avi from the vob and then I converted it a 160kbps mp3 using Gknot...

Both Winamp 2.8 and 3.0 report it at as 94:21 which is good but WMP still reports it as 1:50:02

I'm hoping WMP (its WMP 6.4 I use Win2kprosp2) is just stupid or something..,,

I'll still try to encode it in its current state and hope it comes out... Can WMP handle big files (I'm encoding all of disc 2 in one big file and i will cut it up just as i did with the first disc) because maybe that is the problem. Thanks

Hi-

but WMP still reports it as 1:50:02

WMP doesn't report VBR MP3 length correctly.

Well again my attempt failed :scared:

The audio and video were still outta sync so i opened up my MP3 in Nero Wav Editor and I notice that the file was 2 seconds longer and it was represnted in the very beginning so I chooped off EXACTLY two seconds (not even 1.9999....2.0000) and it was playing the intro in sync but after 2 minutes the difference began to appear and by 6 minutes its crazy (those MS add up quickly)

Has anyone encoded Evangelion Discs 2-8 USA and able to get the audio, video and subs synced? Thanks!

Edit:

Btw, I am trying to pack as much information in each post/problem as I know because I know the more information the easier it is to find out the exact problem. I know that you'll probably know nothing if I just say "Neon Genesis Evangelion audio is not in sync...what do I do" and I write so much because I'm hoping it will yield a correct answer. That and sometimes I post at dvdrhelp and its kind of frustrating trying to help a user who wants to fit his 14 DVD collection at full quality on 1 CDR and doesn't give out anything but vague infromation. But thanks to anyone who takes the time to repond :)

Hello once more, and in a feeble attempt to get help I am describing it in greater detail. I decided to rip again but this time I noticed that Cells 1-3 were odd and had nothing but a blank and that the movie was in cell4. Now I tried ripping like that and amazing the audio went into sync- so I am successful right there.
But the subtitles isn't in sync- its approximately 45 seconds off and I'm not sure why its like that. Does anyone have I clue or can anyone give a solution? Also what is the best resync utility that is fairly easy? I feel I am "winning" this battle against my collection and I really need help =)

Thank you

Well I found it out on my own and even though I got little to no help (thanks manono) I'll say how I did it:

I didn't force Film the thing. I IVTCed it. I ripped the VOB save for CElls 1-3 and I encoded all episodes without SUBS (if i tried to do them seperately I'd get missing sub problems)

Then I converted the .sub to SSA made a wav and matched the audio and re-encoded in VDubMod

If I had a choice I wouldn't reencode twice (loss of quality) but I can't do much about that :\

Ok I did Eva a Long Time ago, but I finaly gave up on it! I could never manage to get the subs and the audio in sync. But I did do the first DVD without a problem. I don't remember the exact script, but I do remember using IVTC2.2 with these parameters, and then added a blend fields. This was probably the best method.

ivtc(70,10,25)
blendfields()

Hope this helps, and I remeber having to manualy find the delay of the episodes, by using the Delay in Nandub and saving as AVI and then trying to time it with a scene like Where they break the emergency glass. I did that scene over and over untill I found the correct delay, and once I got the glass breaking in sync, the rest of the episodes were correctly in sync. As far as the subs...... I used .srt and was able to use the same delay. Hope this helps.

If you are wondering it worked :D Not what you said but I went in and manually synced the subs with SSA and the aduio and I got it :) Perfect Eva discs... :D

Is there any way you could post the subtitle sync times you determined for Disc #2 - Disc #8? It would save myself (and lots of other users) a great deal of time.

(Just incase you don't get this message, I've PMed you, as well)

Thanks for the help!

I'm really sorry but I don't have them. If you are wondering what I did was rip out the audio into a WAV @ 48000Hz using winamp (and only like maybe 100megs...) and then used SSA to manually sync. Just hope you have good speakers.

Though I can tell you all of them were off by 2 seconds at the most

If you're wondering why you didn't get any help it's most likely because it's often extremely hard finding the problem for sync errors with video/audio/subs unless it's obvious the person with the problem did some basic error; I couldn't find any in your post so I didn't reply. It can be hard enough finding the problem when it's your own (as you obviously know by now... ;)), imagine doing it over a forum...

Well, at the same time, I've run into the same problem, so there might be something particular about ripping Evangelion with Gordian Knot & DivX 5.0.X?

Which is why I was trying to be specific as hell  when I was writing up my things.

As for a Gknot incompatability I highly doubt that - I spent hours upon hours googling and I even started visiting foreign sites with Babelfish (mainly French ones for some odd reason) and ADV was a b*tch when they did these DVDS. Very smart of them though as I only came upon one or two successful completions but most were made by usesr with 2-3 posts which causede me to doubt their reliability. So in a sense it feels good to be able to have some HQ rips on my own...so in effect I compltely ripped one of the hardest Animes successfuly with full quality yet I never knew Gordian Knot used Avisynth :p
