View Full Version : Flickering movie because of Oggmux!!?

Ok, I've ripped 'Titanic' two hours ago. I used DivX5.02pro with VirtualDub1.5 and I wanted to make an OGM, so I started Oggmux and added my ogg...

So far. Oggmux 0.9.4.2 finished and I began to watch the new 797MB-movie a little bit... but I had to see some flickers and wrong pixels in the movie!! First looked at the ripped vobs - no flickering. Then it was the turn for the DivX-Avi. I supposed the encoding-process for the most probably reason for this flickering of course! But the avi was ok!! I startet the ogm again (BSPlayer 0.85) and - u guess it - same flickering at same position!!

Ok, I tried to mux avi and ogg again - same result. Now I upgraded Oggmux to 0.9.4.3 and the result didn't change. I'm lucky about haveing my avi still on hdd! I think about muxing with vdubmod or nandub. But I like Oggmux very well! I always thought that Oggmux would be last position in ripping a DVD, where something could go wrong... Seems to be thought a little bit foolish...

Questions? Suggestions?

just check your ogm with OGMInfo: if there are sync-failings, try again with OGMuxer (is not the same as OggMux)

Please report back

Thanks for replying!

Never heard of OGMinfo or OGMuxer... but just tried OGMinfo:
http://www.wxyz.de/titaniclog.txt

My problem is that I don't know how to find out with this info-file, if there are Sync-Errors or not...
End of (Video-)stream is not reached - maybe this is the point? How can I correct it?

I'll try OGMuxer too, just after breakfast...

Well, the thing with EOS not reached is really curious, what parameters did you use in OggMux?

BUT, if there were any sync-failures in the OGM, OGMInfo would report it on top of the log-file.

You can retry it with parameters -p -v1, then search in the (really big, open best with wordpad) TXT for "FAIL"

No Parameters in OggMux, just added my ogg (-q 4.5) and my avi and clicked on Mux file...

Ok, tried OGMinfo with suggested parameters... 25MB-logfile, but no "Fail" in it!

Looking for OGMuxer in a while

Just tried Ogmuxer: Same problem - Same flickering!

Bad for me, but so it seems, that I have some strange files here, and it's not fault of Oggmux or Ogmuxer!

Hm, i ripped the movie, and I did encode the credits seperately... after encoding I paste the avis with vdub and directstreamcopy together. But I don't think that there was lost a frame (missing now?)!

End of Stream not reached - Maybe the movie is longer than the ogg or reverse... ogg and avi eventually do not have the same length? But I don't know, how this could have happened, or why my problem is flickering and not asynchron Audio and Video!

How did you transcode the ogg vorbis? Using BeSweet? Did you use any delay for the ogg ( as specified in the vob-file)?

which decoder are you using? DivX or FFDShow? Second is much better for OGM-playback!

transcoded with HeadAC3, and the delay was taken correct!

Decoder, yes, ffdshow doesn't work correctly with my movies!? Maybe I'll try the non-alpha from June 2002... Xvid often has big black pixels in the movie (with and without audio), DivX will be played in a good way, but DivX&Ogg as OGM will be played only in diagonal stripes...

So I took Nic's decoder for Xvid and DivX-Decoder for OGM(DivX&Ogg) - that works.

@mikeson: thanks for the link to this thread. That's exactly my problem!

But:
This thread has no result... 4 pages with comments, but no clear solution... :(
I still have an avi-movie without audio but good looking...
And I can make an OGM with Oggmux or Ogmuxer - and the result, independant from the used Player, is the same: Audio good, but "broken frames" at some positions...

It is mentioned that FFDShow could be updated - but that didn't help me. Anyway I believe, that's the wrong way to solve the problem, because this thread showed, that demuxing and remuxing can really help and so it's not fault of filters or players. I'll try remuxing in a few minutes too.
It seems to be a little bug in the ogm-container... but what is different from the first muxing to the remuxing??

One guy in this thread wrote:
i use divx502, same thing. avi file looks good, as soon as muxed it has these broken frames. i cannot provide a screenshot since i am to dumb for it. when i press print and then paste in paint, the wmp window in the picture shows only blackness although the real one has the broken frame...
this happens on my laptop with an integrated sis 630 graphics chip and on my geforce 2 computer. both win2k. encoded using latest avisynth and virtualdub, muxed with latest oggmux. in the same file the glitches always appear in the same place (frame). they always seem to be only one frame long.
That's exactly what's going on on my computer... Maybe anyone has an association of ogm-playback and the not-working print-function?

Well, I'll try remuxing now... hope that helps... then I'll try to take an old version of oggmux (as one guy in the thread above wrote) and hope I'll find a solution... Hope you chiefs out there find a solution for me using newest version of oggmux...

Another guy wrote, that the data would be fine, the playback is wrong - do you think, that's right? I'm not feeling good with broken frames, but when I know, that my data would not have any broken frame any more in future and can be played in good looking ways, I will be satisfied - for the moment.

I'm quite sure it's the problem of the DivX directshow filter.

Try to get ffdshow up and running properly on your system (never had any troubles with 13122003-build of ffdshow alpha, it's marked as 11122003 in the sourceforge alpha file area) and you'll be able to enjoy your movie as intended :)

Thanks for advice. Maybe you are right. There is definetly something going wrong on my system with decoding... "Running properly" seems not to be easy...

Playback with DivX-Decoder is possible. But with ffdshow there are just diagonal stripes in my movie, which only let you suppose what normaly should be seen there...

I wanted to try other versions of ffdshow too, but first time I 'updated', player and window were closed by Windows. Not only crashing, after a further update, there is one file in my ffdshow-folder now called 'ffdshow.ax' which can't be deleted. file in progress!? I can install just by clicking 'ignore' when installation alerts because of this file.

So it's terrible - I can't play my movies with ffdshow right, I can't update ffdshow completely, I can't even show what I have to see instead of the movie, because my screen-print-function seems also to be not working for "active" pictures on my screen (just a black window in the player is seen on the screenshot...)

- I think I better go to bed now and try tomorrow again...
