4:3 --> 16:9

After ripping Pulp Fiction I noticed it was 4:3 ratio but it is a wide screen movie. How would I go about correcting the aspect ratio?

what do you need to do (im sorry i dont understand)
if its widescreen then why do you need to change it
we need some more info(is it letterboxed?)

Sorry for the confusion, the aspect ratio DVD2AVI tells me is 4:3 but the movie is obviously an anamorphic widescreen movie. So the blank black lines above the movie are being seen as the actual movie itself. I would like to correct this before I encode the movie with CCE so it will play correctly on a anamorphic widescreen TV.

Check the IFO file, DVD2AVI can sometimes report the wrong Aspect Ratio. The correct aspect ratio is in the movie's titleset IFO file. If it is 4:3 then that means it is letterboxed. Which as you said the black bars are part of the main movie stream.

If this is the case then you can clip these black bars out during frameserving into CCE. But since I use TMPGEnc, this is ten times easier since it has a tool to do this.

Which version of Pulp Fiction are you ripping? The original release was 4:3 Letterboxed widescreen. This means they take a full frame and fill the top and bottom with black bars.

The new 2disc set is anamorphic widescreen. This means they take the 16:9 image and squish it to fill the 4:3 frame then the player squishes the image to the correct aspect then inserts the black bars on the top and bottom (unless you have a widescreen tv).

There is a good chance you have the older release which is 4:3.

sounds to me that the movie is in fact a 4:3 letterbox
and not a 16:9 anamorphic release.

if the picture looks undistorted in dvd2avi then you have a 4:3 release.
