I've always been using Koepi's stable build, but I just came to realize that this thing is almost a year old! Haven't any more features went stable over all this time? Or are there maybe some more recent stable builds by someone else that I would be better off using?

Well I searched through a lot of threads some time ago ( had to stop for personnal reason, anyway...) and I got that the venerable Koepi (/me is bowing) didn't want to release a newer stable build for a lot of reasons.
Well I'm sure Koepi has excellent reason for that ! :)
Personnaly I m annoyed as some friends tend to give me encodes of theirs done with feature the stable build can't decode.
So far I always preferred to stay away from FFdshow for playing back . So I m stockpiling those encodes for the day where a stable build or something like that would appear and would allow me to decode well without jeopardizing the encoding.
Well I have had an idea for an alternative solution.
What about releasing a modified unstable build that would encode only with specifications ok for archiving (that would be decodable without flaws by future versions) ?
The idea would be to simply "greying out" and not allowing options that are not stable and unsure.
Again I don't want to bother our very helpful developper friends and especially Koepi, I'm just asking !
Wishing all of you well !

sure it would be great to have a new stable build since the last one (koepis) is already half a year old, but on the other side if the options arent stable there will be no stable build of course.
i hope that relatively old options like b-frames will be stable soon...

Exactly what I was thinking... What's stopping you from updating just the decoder and keeping the stable build for your own encodes?

It isn't stable, Umaniac's insta build system got kind of mixed up when they merged CVS_HEAD and dev3api and made a seperate branch for dev4api. At least that is what I understand happened, at any rate that build is not stable.

Well in fact nothing and that's what I'm doing for a week now :)
It would be perfect if one could switch on will from one decoder to the other.
Well anyway that's quite useful and I won't moan any longer on that topic :).
No urge for me to get a stable encoder, though as I'm curious and as I'm looking forward XviD making it to a larger public I still think it would be good to let know what agenda is planned for a new stable candidate release (either in terms of time or in terms of feature to fix).
And the final word : THANK YOU ALL ! :)

Ah, that is the 0.9.1 build which contains some small bug fixes from 0.9 I think. But at any rate you are right it is the latest stable. It doesn't have anything different such as b-frames, 1/4 pixel or chroma motion which you would find in a dev build though. I guess you will have to wait for 1.0 for these kind of things which might not be too long.
