View Full Version : Solutions for the Multicopy error?

I've been trying to backup the Simpsons Season #2 - Disc 4, with the retail version of IC, version 7.01, and I have not messed with any of the reg settings. Every time I try, either to disc or HD, I get the Multicopy crash and dump other people have described.
I've tried going into the settings and telling it not to "repair subchannel data", and to "ignore read errors", as other people have suggested on this board, but it has not helped.
Has any figured out a way to avoid this error? Or figured out the cause? From my rough info gathering, it seems that everyone having the problem seems to be running Win XP Pro (that's what I am using too), so maybe that is the culprit.

is this region 1 or 2?
and when exactly does it happen?

Region 1. IIRC, it is about halfway through video data 8 of 9. I'll run it again, and give an exact spot in a couple hours.

ok I have region 1 here also
I'll give it a bash :D
is it the one with bart on a skateboard and his head is missing?

Yup. That's the one.
I know other people have gotten the Multicopy error on other movies too. The "Movies that cause InstantCopy to crash" thread has some other instances.

well it looks like I'm gonna get my first crash from IC
but at least I can get a better idea of exactly what is going on :D
ripping it now
I needed to back it up but I'm only on series one at the mo, but I guess I'll skip to series 2 ep 4 just for this
although I will probably use DVD95Copy from now on anyway :)

can you tell me roughly when it crashes and what title its processing at the time?
does it crash in the same place?

Always crashes at the same place. 48% through track progress "reading video data 8 of 9", 79% of total progress.

yes I noticed
its crashed on me in exactly the same place
my first dodgy DVD at last
but I've sussed it already shame I never tried this weeks ago :D
I will post a report quite soon with my findings
I've noticed a couple of things and maybe Pinnacle will take note this time and fix it in the next update :)
cheers

I hope so. :)
Thank you for taking the effort and using your tech knowledge to take a look at it.
I don't know if it's a XP Pro conflict or what, I just know that no one seems to have found a solution to it yet.

IC has gone past the point it normally crashes and is now on Video Data 9 :) HERE (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/temp/sims/works.png)
SUCCESS pic here (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/temp/sims/success.png)
sickening thiing is it's 4.43Gb as I oversived t to 4.62 but I shoulda realised a series DVD is always bigger. No big deal as I can always trim of the extra 0.06Gb :)
I will come back and post after I have ripped out files and checked the structure as to how I managed to do this
so it looking like I'm the only person who has a backup of the Region 1 Simpsons Series 2 DVD 4 disc using IC :D
p.s. I never got the multicopy.exe error but I've just remembered I've got the message errors turned off so that's why I didn't see it when it crashed the 1st time just after this pic HERE (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/temp/sims/crash.png)
p.p.s. this is probably why some people don't see the error message as they may have them turned off like me
I will be posting my solution here HERE (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49283)
