Hi to everybody,
this is my first message in a forum.... great sensation!!
(I apologise for my english).
I have read a lot and the question is the following:
which is the most compliant stndard in DVD burning.
I believe there is a little bit of confusion, if someone of old members can say something....
The guide in Doom9 site suggests ISO/UDF directly.
Coujo suggests ImgTool (classic)for an imagine file that has to be written in iso mode.
Derrow suggest Coujo (this is written in help file)to use UDF option in ImgTool 0.99 new version!!
Can someone tell something??????
Thanks!

DVD Video standard describes the use of an UDF 1.02/ISO 9660 bridge filesystem format. But any standalone player only needs UDF 1.02 to understand your DVD. The ISO format was only added to let PCs read the DVD media. As the standard of DVD was born, many operating systems don't know anything about UDF...
Here (http://www.coujo.de/ib/images/image002.gif) you can see a diagram how the filesystem works.

Thanks CouJo for your explanation!!!
In fact I still have a dubt.
I think to have understand that your ImgToll 0.90 old new version creates an image file in iso mode....
How is possible later to burn in ISO /UDF??
I don' t think it depends on DVDDecrypter.... or not??
If I have to believe (and I want believe) in your explanation the ISo file will be recognised only by my PC, because it is not in UDF mode that alloweds the compatibility for standalone players!!!!
This misunderstand is driving me mad....

ImgTool Classic (0.90) creates the needed ISO/UDF bridge filesystem. You can burn this image with any burn software which can burn DVD Images. You don't care about filesystem or anything else, everything is already stored in the image.

Hi, I'd like to better understand something about ISO and UDF also for General DATA burning.
And so on. I tried to record on a DVD-RW some data. I used ISO mode, everything ok. The disc works.
I burnt a DVD-R containing DATA in UDF 1.5 mode. This disc creates many problems with InCD 4.1.7: if I insert this disc into DVD-RW it works and EJECTS ok (InCD takes control over it); if I put it into DVD-ROM drive, this won't eject it any more (I must restart Windows and eject the disc before it loads InCD). Is it normal? I tried a way to FINALIZE this DVD but no hope.
So. In your experience & opinion, which is the best file system for DATA backup?
ISO
ISO/UDF
UDF (which? 1.20 1.50 2.01?)
I also saw a "XBox compatibility" option.
PS: I searched something on the web but I understood few things.
PS2: I checked nero documentation but the program says I didn't installed it ...

For data only always use ISO mode. The ISO/UDF bridge is only needed for DVD Video standard.

I recently bought a DVD burner. I tried to burn about 3.5 GB in ISO format in a DVD-RW (1x), and computer was unable to read it.
After that I made an ISO test with a small file (a few MB), and it worked correctly.
Finally I made the 3.5 GB compilation in UDF 1.5 an it reads perfectly from burner and DVD-Reader.
May be the first test had a problen with lead-out or lead-in, but I think I won't try ISO until I find a 2X DVD-RW.
About UDF reading, W2k and XP are able to read it (And may be Windows ME). About other windows OS, look at Roxio for the UDF reader (freeware), and for linux you should look at google for "UDF for linux" (I found it, but I don't remember where).
