View Full Version : IMPORTANT, title removal and what to look out for in DVD95Copy

Be careful when removing Titles as firstly if you remove the Main Title this will cause the DVD95Copy to freeze completly and you will end up with it looking like this
http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/temp/dvd95copy5.png
secondly the Titles within DVDcopy actually refer to the amount of VTS_xx_1.VOB's there are and not the actual Titles within the VIDEO_TS.IFO
so removing a VOB Set will remove all the video within that set and not the individual title
I suggest if you wanna just remove the likes of the warnings and a few trailers you refer to my Ifoedit guides until Digimedic sorts out this little hiccup (which I'm sure he will)
I mean't to post this before but was shattered last night

be aware that it also deletes the VTS_xx_0.VOB's data also
so you have been warned, so please no complaints

I understand so far your guides with stripping and so on, 'cause i did that sometime on movies, where the size and the desired audiotracks we're smaller than 4.37 GB.
But what do I else have to do in combination with dvd95copy? Overwrite the output files from dvd95copy with the new stripped files that ifoedit spit out, or what? Or did I misunderstand something?

guide is in the making :D
firstly prepare the DVD with Ifoedit/Ifoupdate etc
then feed this DVD to any of the 3 programs leaving all titles intact, that way you will end up with a fully compliant DVD
it is ok to strip AUDIO/SUBS with theses programs but as of yet none can strip Titles, though DVD95Copy does a great job of removing the single VOB ID's from a VOB unlike Instancopy as it also creates a blank VOB just like my guides show you
BUT!, it also deletes the VTS_xx_0.VOB (menu) VOB for that Title which may cause unwanted problems, so for now it's best not to use the Title removal feature until this is fixed

Ah, now I think I got it:
1. Ripping the whole DVD
2. Stripping away the trailers, warnings, etc. I don't wanna keep from the original files referring to your guide for example
3. Start dvd95copy
Ok, I didn't work with IfoUpdate so far, have to take a look at that first....or I just wait until DigiMedic fixes that maybe with the next release....shouldn't take too long.... :)

by Jove I think he's got it :D
yep that's exactly it and you will enjoy the 100% success rate I do
p.s. just a pointer for those who still use Instantcopy to remove titles as it plays OK on their standalones
what if your player dies or you decide to upgrade, then buy your new player and relaise all your backups don't play on it due to the 'BUTCHERING' that InstantCopy does to the DVD
enjoy backing up your collection again my friends :p

Mkay, then here comes another stupid question, powered by 69Mws :D :
Do I have to use IfoUpdate for this or is this just optional? Kinda alternative to the method with IfoEdit?
Sorry, I'm not at home right and can't do any testing, so I ask some stupid questions....

ifoupdate is only needed if you replace VOB's
Ifoedit updates the VOB's if you remove VOB ID's :D
I'm gonna update my guides
NEW LOOK (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/GUIDE/prepare.htm)

Greetings MisterX, I have a question regarding your "Preparation Guides" :)
I have a problem with Stripping by "VOB Extras", when more than one Titleset has to be stripped.
I played a bit around with the first DVD from Star Trek TNG Season One (German RC2).
It contains three Titlesets (first one is the pilot movie, the other two contain each one episode).
When I do the stripping for each Titleset in order to keep only englisch audio & subs, I get every time a new VIDEO_TS.IFO.....so which one should be kept? When rewriting the VIDEO_TS.IFO every time I do the stripping for each titleset, the menu doesn't work anymore.
Do I have to keep the original VIDEO_TS.IFO in this case?

You mean replacing all .ifo's (VIDEO_TS.IFO and VTS_xx.IFO) or only the VTS_xx.IFO's?
Like I said, I replaced the original files with all the files IfoStrip gave me after every strip, but then the menu was totally gone
I stripped only the language in every VTS, 'cause I wanted to keep only english audio, I didn't do any Menu Stripping with the function "Menu Extras" at this point.
Sorry, I may kinda have a long wire on this Ifo thing....

how are you doing it?
I keep the original folder with all VOB's in then strip one IFO at a time
open the 1st IFO you wanna strip and process it then insert the 4 IFO/BUP's back into the original folder along with the newly created VOB's
remove any of the older VOB's for that IFO if they aren't overwritten as sometimes you have less VOB's
now strip the next IFO and so on till you finish
you sound like you are building the DVD in another folder and this is probably why you are missing the menu VOB's (VTS_0x_0.VOB) as these are not processed when using VOB EXTRAS

That's what I do. The complete original DVD files are in one folder and I only take one ifo at a time.
I begin with VTS_01.IFO: select VOBID (it's just one in this case), check english audio and do the stripping into another folder.
Then the output folder contains new VTS_01.IFO, also a .BUP and VIDEO_TS.IFO and new VOB Files, not to forget.
After that I take these newly created files and paste them over the original files.
Then I proceed with the next Titleset (VTS_02.IFO) and do the same again and also for the third Titleset.

that's the way to do it (sounds like Punch n Judy! :D)
what did you mean when you said the menu is gone?
gone as in playback gone or as in gone from folder?
69Mws
31st March 2003, 20:08
It was gone in playback. I was testing playback in IfoEdit and Cinemaster Player.
The Episodes start directly, instead starting with the menu. Menu Call also didn't work.
My guess is, that something's wrong with the VIDEO_TS.IFO, 'cause for every strip I get a new one and paste it over the original one and maybe that's why it doesn't work anymore...
I mean at the end my VIDEO_TS.IFO will be the one, which was created from the last strip on the last Titleset and so maybe some "links" are missing or so....
I'll just try it one more and then I'll see, if it's happening again...maybe I did something wrong, which I'm not aware of right now.
Greetz & thx for your help so far

you will sort it eventually
check it after each strip also and you will isolate the time it disappears

Good mornin' Gentlemen, :D
I did some testing before I went to work ( :) ) and here are my "observations":
I opened the vts_01_0.ifo (=first Titleset) and did a stripshow ;) with the desired languages into another folder. What I get is a new VIDEO_TS.IFO,a new VTS_01_0.IFO, a BUP File and two VOBs (VTS_01_1.VOB and VTS_01_2.VOB).
So far, so good. When I compare the new created VIDEO_TS.IFO with the original one in IfoEdit, the whole "Menu Part" is gone in the new created one.
Personally I must say, that it's no wonder to me, because that's the same procedure I use, when I want to keep only desired streams from a "normal movie DVD" , when they are not bigger than 4.37 GB. And when doing this, there's also no menu left at the end, so I finally have a movie-only DVD-R.
Another point is, when I'm opening the next ifo (VTS_02_0.IFO) and do the stripping in a new folder, the ouptput-files are named as if they were the first titleset.
Example:
Original: VTS_02_0.IFO, VTS_02_1.VOB, etc.
Strip-Output: VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, etc.
Am I getting something wrong from from MisterX's "Preparation Guides"?
Greetz & have a nice day.....in whatever timezone you're living :D

Have you by some chance checked different options on the screen after pressing VOB EXTRAS, cos I have a funny feeling you have create new IFO's ticked :)

69Mws If you strip from VTS_02_0.IFO, VTS_02_1.VOB, you will end up with VTS_02_0.IFO, VTS_02_1.VOB along with the VIDEO_TS.IFO/BUP's
from what you describe, I reckon you ain't got the right options checked on the screen when you press VOB EXTRAS and you are creating NEW IFO's so check you settings are the same as this picture HERE (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/backup/Pics/lastpgc/lastpgc2.png)
p.s remember to drag Ifoedit off the bottom of screen to make it go twice as fast when its processing

As far as I can see, I checked the option "Create New Ifo Files (Movie only)" and now everything's clear.....there's an old saying like "being capable of reading carefully may be an advantage sometimes" and that seems to point at me right now.... :D
Oh man, this is so embarassing....as if I were playing around with dvd-backups only since two days or so..... :D
Thx MisterX! :)
BTW: Do you have already DVD95Copy 1.4 BETA? If not, mail @ DigiMedic and you'll get it :)

no problem, cos I don't normally say anything works unless I've tried it a few times myself, so that's why you had me puzzled
I knew about the new release but as I've had no major probs with 1.3, I'll wait for now and let people who really need/want it cos I'm sure he's getting quite a few emails at the mo :D

DVD95Copy 1.4 Beta is quite cool.
It allows you to specify the compression for all Titlesets and Menus individually.
And you can also choose which audiotrack(s) & sub(s) shall be kept for every Titleset. That's very interesting for episode DVDs like Star Trek, Buffy, etc.
With Version 1.3 is the problem, that the selected audio is only taken for the first Titleset, the other Titlesets will contain all languages, no matter what you selected.
