Batch divx > dvd conversion

Hi,

I have 26 (and maybe more in future) avi files that I want to be playble on stand alone dvd player.

The files are 512x384@23.9760fps. 24-25 minutes in length. Approximately 1.2mbits Divx. With 128bit/48khz mp3 audio.

A batch of everything (audio, video conversion, syncing) for multiple files would be ideal in this situation I suppose.

So what are my options? Also how many DVDs am I looking at if I convert? (26 files, 24-25 minutes each)

Well I used DVD2SVCD to batch convert Season 1 and season 2 of Southpark. Each episode is 22mins - Season 1 is 13 episodes and Season 2 is 18. Both fit on 1 DVD-R nicely.

Unless your AVIs are animation though I suspect you will want better quality than this- best way to test is convert a couple and whack em onto a DVD-RW and see how it looks on the TV.

DVD2SVCD is great - I use it, to some degree, for every type of video conversion I do - learn it - you won't regret it. It lives right here at Doom9.

what I'm trying to convert is anime :)

EDIT: checking out "Avi2SVCD", pretty confusing :)

Do you use any plugins (such as dvd and mdvd authoring (on advanced dvd2svcd forum) also what settings do you use for what you've encoded? (v/a bitrate, etc).

For the Southpark episodes I used the following settings:

First go to Misc tab and set input to AVI and DVD2SVCD level to Advanced

Audio: 2 choices here, depending on what authoring sw you're going to use. If the authoring sw supports mp3 then use 128/160Kbps and don't tick "Audio 1 downsample" as 48KHz is what DVD requires. If possible use authoring sw that uses AC3 and just tick "Do not convert audio - use source".

Frameserver: Bicubic resize, 720x480/576 - I tried lower resolutions but found the flickering too annoying - only using native DVD res was I able to get rid of this flicker (only visible when watching on TV)

Bitrate: Between [0] and [A couple of mins over what your episodes are]
Use: 1 CD
CD Size: - you need to work this one out yourself - my example - 18 episodes of Southpark, 4.38GB on a DVD-R - need to allow 150-200MB for breathing space and 100MB for whatever menus you decide to add, so that leaves 4196MB. Divided by 18 gives 233MB so use this as your CD size
Max: about 2500 Min: 300 Min Avg: 1000 Max Avg: 2000 (depending on how many episodes you have)

Encoder: Cinema Craft Encoder (2.50), multipass VBR, 2/3 passes. Image Qual - 15-18 - Bias 20.
Advanced Settings - tick DVD Compliant.

Subtitles: Don't rip subtitles
CD Image Don't make images

Right - how to set a batch job:

Set up all your settings for your first episode and press Go!
Wait for audio extraction to complete then kill DVD2SVCD
Re-open it - Misc tab - change the deafult output folder to Ep2 (or whatever) and open your next episode for conversion (all other settings will remain friom last time)Press Go!
Again wait for audio extraction to complete and kill the program
Repeat for all episodes (giving each job its own folder)then navigate to your DVD2SVCD folder and edit "dvd2svcd batch.bat". Simlpy add the addresses of all the *.d2s files that will have been created in each of your folders, save the *.bat and run it

These are my personal settings and may not give you the exact results that you want - if not just tinker with the settings! :)

NB: No I don't use any of the extra plugins
