View Full Version : Memory Leak problem...

I've had an encode crash out on me twice now, saying I am out of Virtual memory.

I am doing an Anime series..

I've been doing 1 episode every day, for the past two weeks almost, with NO problems. I HAVE rebooted.. last night, out of the blue, I ran into this memory leak.. My process hasn't changed.. it's always the same. For some reason, on this particular episode, VDub is hosing? I am using the DivX 5.03 codec. I have a GB of memory in my system. My swap file was set to 1.5-3GB - I just changed it to 'System Managed' and now I'm trying the encode a third time. I have well over 80GB of HD space free (only 1 drive). It also seems to be crapping out right around the same spot, on the 2nd pass..

WHY is VDub crapping out on me all of a sudden, for no damn good reason?

Well, the encode has been stuck at 25% of the 2nd pass for almost 2 hours now..

It still appears to be going.. maybe setting my page file to system managed caused it to just get stuck in a neverending memory loop, instead of simply crashing out..

My system is using the entire 1GB of memory + 2 gigs of page file too..

It is too few details to answer your question. What OS?, what Vdub settings you use?,what codec settings. If it is 2000/XP go to Task Manager and see how much memory (memory+swap) Vdub process takes.
I can remember i had some problem divx file (that had keyframes every 2000-500 frames and not 200-300 as normatl) that no matter what i did in Dub, even Direct stream copy to video and audio - Vdub proces tried to use 800+mb of memory almost hanging up system(w2000).
Maybe you have semething similair

WinXP Pro.

Using Smart Smoother, Warp Sharp and Sub Title filter.

Not doing Audio.. (VDubModding that in after).

As far as memory usage - that's the wierd part. VDub never really uses that much.. usually less than 100mb. Task Manager doesn't TELL ME what is using all the extra memory! It's a ghost leak!

The only VDub settings I am using are within the Codec itself. High Def Profile, 1150 Bitrate, 240 Key, every else default for DivX 5.03 Pro. The same as I've ALWAYS done..

**EDIT**
I tried running the encode on another machine, but for some reason, when I load the VFAPI file, the screen is all black in VDub.. it's always done this.. I can't ever load VFapi files that I made on ANOTHER machine in VDub.. always get a black screen.. very odd..

I reinstalled 1 DivX 5.03.. if this doesn't do it, I'm going back to DivX 3.11 and Nandub..

Either that, or my Codec got screwed somehow.. I just reinstalled the Codec.

VFAPI pseudo-avis DO only run on the machine you created them, its like this since i use the the converter... but making a new one from shouldn't take that long ;)
