View Full Version : cue/bin file only has 3mins out of 1.5hour DVD, mpeg file has all 1.5hour

Hi,
I completed a backup using DVD2SVCD. When I loaded the cue file in Nero, it shows only 3min of content(the movie is 1.5hour). ALL the Vob files were extracted. I selected ALL the chapters under the Conversion tab.
Also the the bbMPEG_Mxed_File_00 when played on RealPlayer shows the entire 1.5hour.
Q1: Why does the cue/bin files not contain the whole movie ?
Q2: How could I fix this ?
I will be glad to attach the log file if you need.
Pls help.

Read the Q&A on how to both test your svcd (q55) and how the preferred method of burning is (q61). My guess is that there's nothing wrong with your bin/que. IMHO, nero tends to be problematic.

Hi,
I followed Q61:
Loaded my virtual drive using daemon
Used PowerDVD to test the MPEG file(under MPEG2 sub-dir).
(PowerDVD could not load the .dat file under the SVCD sub-dir)
Still it is a 3min run. Same as what I had seen before.
So my cue/bin somehow is corrupted and unable to contain the entire 1.5hour movie.
Can you suggest something else I could try.
Thanks for your quick response.

Hi,
My Bin file is 37,956KB.
My bbMPEG_Muxed_File00 is 711,079KB.
I noticed these WARN messeges in my VCXBuilder_log file:

Are you doing Mpeg-1 or mpeg-2?
What are your bitrate settings?

Mark,
I am doing MPEG-2 and my Bitrates are:
Min = 300
Max = 2530
Max.Avg = 2230
All CD sizes set to 700

Ok so my theory is blown out the window.
For the short term as long as the bbmpeg_muxed_file??.mpg is OK you could use Nero's SVCD template to burn it.
If you wish to keep chapters then try TSCV or maybe VCDEasy.
You might also want to try a recover and see it works on a second try.
I just don't see anything obvious in that log file.
Why are you setting the CD size to 700? Don't you know you can burn up to 806MB's or so onto a 80 Minute cd if you are doing a SVCD? This is why 800 is a standard size. If you set it to 800 it will make a CD image slightly larger to 806MB's or so.

Shuq,
Try this. Look at one of the faulty CDs that you have burned using the CTRL I keys when in Nero or do the RECORDER->MEDIUM-INFO thing.
You should find two mode 2 tracks. The first one should only be about a 1Meg long and the second much much larger. The size of this will depend on your disc capacity, but it should be serveral hundered meg.
Now, if you find that track 1 is about 30 meg in size, Nero has screwed up.
Instead of writing the cue file using disc at once, write it TRACK-AT-ONCE. I know this sounds crazy, but this solution worked for me. To do this I had to down grade my version of NERO to 5.5.9.9.
Anyway, I hope that this helps. Let us all know how you get on.

Hi-

Looks to me as if bbMPEG screwed up. Maybe the mux rate was too low or something. Not really my area of expertise.
Maybe try to recover from the bbMPEG step. If that doesn't work, do it manually and adjust the mux rate. Just a guess.
Nick
2nd April 2003, 18:34
The log shows a bad packet in the muxed mpeg file. When vcdimager or VCDXbuild encounter a bad packet they stop dead. That is why long mpeg => short image file in this case.
You could try Nero's SVCD template and forego the chapters but I don't know if that will accept the odd bad packet or not.
Anyway, if all else fails you can mux and cut manually wit TMPGEnc then try vcdeasy to author your images. (I think you have to rename your .mpv and .mp2 files .m2v and .m2a respectively but having never done this don't quote me on it. I just know it is possible to mux svcd compliant mpeg2 with tmpgenc. If you have difficulty, search the web for a guide.)
Anyway, good luck!
Nick
Hope this helps.

Thanks to markrb, Robbie, Manono and Nick for all your comments.
Temporarily, I have gotten by following markrb's suggestion but I will try all the other tests and see where this leads.
Thanks again for all the suggestions.
