VDub audio sync mod caused de-sync!

I started using the VirtualDubVCR that has both the Timer and the audio sync mod built in and I noticed that the mod caused de-sync instead! I followed all the instructions the author mentioned.

The de-sync would show up as a split second of the audio repating itself and skewing the audio from then on by that much eventually though the program would fix the audio, syncing it back up further down the line. This happens even when there was nothing going on in the background.

running XP with a ATI AIW 8500 on dual P3 1.25Ghz capturing on a seperate hard drive

I really only started using it because I needed a Timer and it was suggesting in the FAQ or Q&A in this forum. After I found out it was messing up my captures I wound up starting using VirtualDVR instead but it's a shame I can't seem to use VirtualVCR becuase it was easier and it didn't drop any frames.

Anyone have an explanation for this?

normally there should be no such thing with this version. Maybe you have bad (i.g. original XP) drivers for your sound device. I had this once, desync of half a second. I installed the audio drivers of the manufacturer of my sound device and the problem was gone...

Do you have desync with other progs ? Like normal VDub ? or VDub Mod ?

OMG, this I remember very well from when I started out with capturing. Those repeating fractions of audio - shudder! BRRR!!

For me, the problem was solved by adjusting PCI latency and some other PCI settings in the BIOS, along with George's PCI latency patch.
... BUT, I'm with AMD on a VIA-Board where that problem is known to maybe occur. Since you're driving Intel, it's a bit unusual. E.G. the latency patch is for VIA-boards only.

Oh, furthermore, DON'T put the audio-in into your AIW (or its breakout-box respectively?). Put it directly into your soundcard's line-in.

Honestly, in the beginning I had *major* capturing problems with my AIW 8500DV / Abit KR7A-133R combination. I fiddelt for weeks like crazy, and was about to be going mad.
But now, everything is running perfectly, smooth as silk.
But, I really fiddled so much, that I cannot recall everything I tried ... ;)

VD capture unreliability is a known issue on
wdm systems;i'm on intel mobo,bt8x8 and i have it on
w2k....i still didn't find a wdm prog to keep the sync...

after all,VDub is a vfw prog,and introducing
the wrapper and all....well no wonder
it has problems....

if you're on NTFS,try pure wdm
prog's(as i can't recommend wdm progs on
FAT32...they don't split avi correct) ,and if you're on
FAT32
make dual boot....
(or do it all over...)
VDub splits the files(to overcome
2/4Gb barrier..) on
vfw and FAT2 like a charm...

audio capture seems normal with regular VDub. I found it crazy how a mod that was supposed to improve audio-snyc wound up causing de-sync instead.

I am using the sound-card's line-in. Using a Hercules Muse XL. As far as know I have the latest drivers.

Thanks for your input and anybody else who has suggestions/knowledge.
