I need help with a school project: I need the video from a DVD in a fairly high quality format, preferably DV AVI. No sound is needed.

The VOB's are already on the hard drive, without any copyright protection. What setting should I use under DVD2AVI?
It seems to only have "No Recompression" (doesn't work), "Full Frames (Uncompressed)", and three of what look like the same MPEG-4 codecs.
The MPEG-4 quality is a bit too low, but uncompressed is huge.
Is there some way to add other codecs to this list?

The format you want will depend upon what you want to do with it.

You could just keep (some of) the vob's or encode it in MPEG4 at a very high bit rate for high quality.

If you want to do DV then see the links in the DV forum, download and install the panasonic codec, then come back here and coherently tell us what you are doing, how you plan to go about it, how you are going to transport the file, etc. Then we can help you.

If all you want to do is get the video with no sound then set up dvd2avi like this:

Audio>track>none
video>field op>forced frame
>yuv
>PC

And you might want to bump the lum to 5

Then just save avi and pick the panasonic codec
That should work ok for you but you might (maybe) then need that DV codec installed on the machine for playback depending on the app and OS you will be using. Best to test that before your gig.
